Single frequency interference
There are several different type of interference that cause problems. This page deals with the situation where:
- Freeview reception is perfect or near-perfect most of the time
- Several channels are missing, but they are all on the same 'multiplex'
Local analogue interference
Local analogue interference is caused by household video devices that you can attach to a television such as: If you have any of these devices, you will need to work out which of these is blocking the reception of a Freeview multiplex by turning off the suspect device and then rescanning for channels on the Freeview box.If powering off the device restores the Freeview channels from the blocked multiplex, you will need to either stop using the problem device's RF output by disconnecting the RF output cable permanently, or by changing the RF channel number that that device uses. See, for example, How do I change the RF output channel on a Sky Digibox?
You can find a list of the frequencies that are not in use at your location by putting your postcode into the My Freeview reception and looking under the "Free RF channels" section.
Non-wideband aerial in some areas
In some places you will need a wideband aerial to receive all the Freeview multiplexes. For example in Central Birmingham, the Sutton Coldfield has multiplex D on an 'out of group', so you cannot view Film4 or ITV2+1 without an aerial upgrade. To find out if you need an aerial upgrade, see My Freeview reception.
Help with Freeview, aerials?

Interestingly, there were no co-channel services from Sutton Coldfield and Moel-y-Parc pre-switchover.

Simon,Tarporley.Dave Lindsey made a very good suggestion in realigning yer aerial towards Sutton Coldfield, only you will be viewing BBC1 West Midlands and ITV1 Central West news bulletins instead of BBC1 Wales (Cymru) ,ITV1 Wales (Cymru),S4C and S4C Clirlun (HD mux) from Moel-Y-Parc.However if yer not that bothered about different regional programming then Sutton Coldfield being a 200kw transmitter on all multiplexes is a good alternative. There is the Wrekin transmitter of course a possible alternative here again as well,BBC1 West Midlands/ITV1 Central West, only slightly nearer but much weaker,20kw BBCA,D3+4,BBCB (HD),10kw SDN,ArqA,ArqB exactly the same strength as Moel-Y-Parc mast.If you decide to opt for Sutton Coldfield you may have to externally mount yer aerial as well as using a Yagi 18K or X-beam XB16K aerial using satellite grade black or brown coloured co-ax cable and importantly fitted with a brass co-ax plug, not alloy or worse still plastic plugs, they're useless !

I live just in Bradford near the edge of Halifax and my HD channels have been varying between pixellating and freezing and "No signal detected" since Wed or Thurs of last week. I get my HD through my Digitalstream PVR - Does anyone know what could have gone wrong in the last week?

Hilary: What is the make and model of your PVR?
Is your aerial on Emley Moor? I am thinking that your receiver could be tuned to another transmitter.

It's a Digitalstream DHR820xU. I'm not sure whether my aerial is on Emley Moor or not. I've tried re-installing. They've worked great since Jan of this year.

Hilary: Emley Moor is roughly south from your location and is about the same direction as satellite dishes point.
If you go to one of the HD channels. Then go into the menu > Others > Diagnostics > Signal information. Next to "Channel" (just above "Frequency") it should say 41 if your aerial is pointing to Emley Moor.
If your aerial is pointing to Emley and it doesn't say 41, then it's not tuned to Emley's HD signal which is therefore the cause of the problem.

Hi Dave. They all say "Channel: 28". How do I change them to 41?

Hi again Dave. I think I've done it. I've done a full re-scan and chosen "Yorks" at the end - before I think I'd chosen "East Yorks & Lincs"!!! It now says Channel: 41 and all seems okay.
Thank you so much for your help - I'd never have sorted it myself.

Hilary,Bradford. The BBCB (HD) multiplex yer referring to on channel 28 is from the main Belmont transmitter hence "East Yorks & Lincs".Channel 41 is the BBCB (HD) multiplex from Emley Moor mast.
