Nick Anderson: Not necessarily! as unlike analogue TV that can give a picture right down to nearly zero signal level albeit heavily speckled, digital TV on the other hand only produces a picture when the signal it receives is sitting between two sets of levels, high and a low, any excesses up or downwards killing the signal, upwards excesses always easier to cure by using an attenuator.
As you are located about 15 miles away from the transmitter then its doubtful if you could have success in the way mentioned, although a loft aerial used in conjunction with a "minimum powered" splitter should be OK.

I have a Panasonic 37 inch Flat Screen TV and a Sony Recorder which is compatible and up till now I can receive and record ALL Freeview Channels.
However although I retuned my TV and Recorder to receive Channel 47 and I get a good picture on my TV.....When I try to record Channel 47 message comes up "This Channel Not In Service"
As stated I dont have this problem with any of the Channels except 47.
Can you help please ?

Why does my sky go off (not getting signal) etc: nearly every day . I have notice that it happens more when it rains, so you can imagine how often that is. I have only just had it installed last week, and I've not been able to watch anything from start to finish without it going to no signal. Can you help?

McAteer: Heavy thundery type rain will always cause problems with satellite reception as microwaves cannot pass through dense water clouds, however this is made worse if the dish hasn't been aligned properly so press "services" 4 - 6 and check that both strength / quality levels are NOT under the equivalent of 60%, as if any of the two are then the dish requires slight realigning.

I continually get a message saying there is no signal for the satellite channel but the reason is that a large rowan tree, which is the height of the house, covers my sky dish. The tree is waiting to be pruned and I expect the problem to be rectified.
The treeman will be working on this very soon.

J purkis: Not really!! although I am aware that it might seem to be that way on occasions but I don't have any connection with Briantist, and I am simply an engineer of many years standing passing on my knowledge to others in the hope that it might assist whoever with a problem they may have.
But as far as Briantist is concerned, considering the massive amount of work that must be involved keeping the sight up to date with all the changes that have, and still are, taking place, I am amazed that Briantist would get any spare time to do anything.

I am contemplating buying a Smart TV which
gives access to BBC iPlayer from a broadband
wi-fi router.I already have this for use with
my wi-fi laptop.My query is : Do smart TVs use
the same kind of wi-fi signal as laptops,or
do they require a special router?
