Telling lies? Freeview HD needs no new aerial, nor does play/record/pause
Just in case you come over this press release: PR Fire - Television>> TV Aerial & Satellite Installers Offer Upgrade for Freeview+ HD
"United Kingdom (19 November) TV Aerial & Satellite Installers, a leading UK supplier of satellite, home entertainment and digital aerial installations and services, are now offering Freeview aerial upgrades for customers interesting in receiving the new Freeview+ HD system.
TV Aerial & Satellite Installers wish to highlight to anyone interested in the new Freeview+ HD service that they may require an aerial upgrade to reap all of the benefits of this new system, as some of the older aerials do not have full signal support for all Freeview HD Digital channels and the Plus record, pause and rewind capabilities. "
Basically, this is not correct.
Freeview HD is SPECIFICALLY designed to work with existing TV aerial, and in particular it ALWAYS, as one of the three public service multiplexes, uses an "in group" frequency on the switched-over transmitters.
The only exceptions are at Emley Moor, Black Hill, Pontop Pike and Crystal Palace where a "preview service" has been introduced.
And here, the matter is not the type of aerial, but the low power of the signal.
Update: TV Aerial & Satellite Installers are not CAI registered, and also their installers are not RDI-LB certified either (Name and Shame - Registered Digital Aerial Installers).
The standard advice is: use firms which has industry recognised registrations and qualifications (Digital TV - Registered Digital Aerial Installers), and if not, contact Trading Standards.

Hi All back in december 2010 i called an aerial company for some advice as i could not get BBC1, BBC2 and ITV on my tv in our Kitchen, i was told i had the wrong aerial our house is 10 years old and that we needed a digital aerial and it could be fitted immeaduately i paid £185 and the new aerial was errected on the ourside of the house. I still could not get the channels i needed but was told that once the switch over happened and the analogue was tunred off every thing would be fine.
The day after the switch over i am close to Milton Keynes so this was around the 15th April i still could not get BBC1, bbc2 OR ITV, I could get sky news but any channel between 800 went to channel 11 and nothing in between. I called the aerial company who sold me the new aerial and he said he was on a roof and i was the 2oo person to call him that day abd all i needed to do was retune the tv a Bush Digital LCD back to the factory default and retune, the problem was i could not find the factroy default so today i purchased a Bush freeview box and connected it and i have BBC1 and BBC2 but no ITV and many of the other channels are pixilating badly apart from BBC NEWS.
Can onyone give me some advice as to what to do next many thanks Gazza

which is your local transmitter?
do you know where your antenna is pointing to?
do you use a booster?
do you have another television in the house that can receive good signal?
or is it just the kitchen tv.
my local transmitter at lark stoke went digital in april but it still made no difference when i redirected the antenna on the roof towards it so re-aligned to oxford again, all though lark stoke is supposed to be the best for me it is not.
I invested in a very large antenna nearly 100 pounds but it is 19db where as the sort an antenna guy sell is about 12db thus able to seek that bit further, i also used the most powerful booster i could find.
It might be worth seeing if someone could test the signal near where the antenna comes in on the roof as you may have a problem with internal cables. Ask neighbours to see if they can get everything ok, what sort of antenna do they have.
Process of elimination im afraid, you need an antenna guy who is open minded to problems

Tudor: It is possible to have too much signal as well as too little. Too much signal overloads the booster (if any) or the amplifier in the receiver. This is known in RF circles as intermodulation or cross-modulation, and the resulting unwanted frequencies are known as intermodulation products. Most often the strongest intermodulation products land in adjacent channels and knock them out.
To see whether your problems might be down to too much signal, please provide a full postcode.
If professional installers are using smaller aerials, it's a good sign that yours is over the top.

Since updating our Television/Freeview box on April 10th 2013, we have no 'programme guide' for nearly all of the programmes so we are unable to set our box to record any programme except for the one we are already watching and generally the tape finishes before the end of the programme, we had NONE of these problems before. We have followed all suggestions.

I have 2 tv Ariel's on my roof. I can not get 16.9 picture or sound. It said no signal. On 14.9 perfect picture and sound. Are the Ariel's at fault or the tv (Panasonic model tx-l32xm6b)

John Barber:
I presume you are talking about the aspect ratio of the pictures being displayed? If that is the case it has nothing whatever to do with the aerials. Rather it is more likely that the TV is not set up correctly. Please check the User Manual carefully.
