There are several factors that use these boxes to "crash":

  • low quality input signal from the aerial
  • sudden electrical noise (such as from a refrigerator or DIY equipment)
  • failed self-updates

Like all digital computer equipment, the Freeview boxes are all designed to diagnose problems during the period after they are turned on.

If you have equipment that is failing more than you expect, you can use your rights under the "Sale of Goods Act 1974 (as amended)" to demand a working replacement within 12 months of purchase.

All my recordings have disappeared but the ones set to record are still there. I had 60% remaining to record.

Keith McClelland:

I'm no expert on PVRs but no-one is going to be able to help you without knowing the Make and exact Model of your PVR.

My Bush digital recorder won't record as it says initialising.

Suzy: Have you tried powering it off at the mains for 10 minutes, then power it back on? If that doesn't work, it may be that the hard drive is failing.

Help. My Goodmans Digital Recorder has got its IR indicator permanently on. I've checked the remote control through a camera and the infer red works fine, I've turned it all off overnight but it's the same the next day. It was making a ticking sound at first.

Wendy:

Does this fault prevent you from setting up recordings or playing them back?
If so, unless someone who knows your device has any better suggestion, then I would try something like a factory reset if that is possible BUT I'd refer to your manual as something like this may delete/lose any recordings you already have.
Quoting the precise model number may enable someone to give more specific advise.
If the recorder is still under warranty then take it back to where you bought it, they should be able to recover any recordings it has if the fault hasn't caused them to be lost.
