To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Both of my Bush recorder boxes have the same fault, channels and programs are fine but I can not record as there is no information when you go to channel list, I have a standard bush freeview box and all the information comes on it with no problems its just the recorders. Any help would be appreciated.

We have just installed Humax free view and get a very strong Welsh service signal for BBC1,2 ITV,CH4 and can not receive BBC points west and other Bristol based stations. The aerial is on the roof the facing west.
On your map I notice we are in a clear zone.
Is it worth getting the direction of the aerial changed or is there another alternative? Thanks for any suggestions.

James Gardiner: Your receiver may have tuned to the transmitter for which the aerial was not installed for.

At your location, the bearings of the transmitters at Bristol Kings Western and Wenvoe are close, although the former is vertically polarised and the latter is horizontally polarised.

Look through to see if there is an option to change the region. Each transmitter will be designated as being of a particular "region".

Failing that, manually tuning to Kings Western, assuming that your aerial is vertical. Wenvoe's channels are interleaved so the unplugging aerial trick during part of the scan won't work here.

UHF channels are:
Kings Western: 43, 50, 46(HD), 53, 57, 60
Wenvoe: 41, 44, 47(HD), 42, 45, 49

For the HD multiplex, you may have to set the mode to DVB-T2, instead of DVB-T (for standard definition).

Hi, I hate retuning my freeview box because something always goes wrong! Yesterday I carried out a manual retune as per Humax instructions and found afterwards that MUX C57 did not detect any channels including 4seven (47) and Ideal World (22). Can anyone help please? Many thanks & kind regards, Wendy

I have just done the scheduled update on my Philips freeview box several time including factory reset, but ITV the picture on stays for about 10 seconds then disappears, but I still have sound, the update message the appears at the bottom of the screen.
All other channels ok including ITV+1. Have checked and all new channels are there and others have moved.
My postcode is PL65SY.

I am tuned to the Winter Hill,Bolton, Lancashire transmitter. I have a new freeview television receiver and have regular signal loss on the BBC channels. Last November I had a new aerial(the original one was crumbling with age)fitted by a firm which transpires to be untrustworthy and I suspect the aerial fitted as being not fit for purpose. I am now seeking a reputable company but would like advice as to the best aerial system to ask for to avoid being ripped off again. I had no signal problems prior to the new aerial and using a digibox into an oldish tv.

Mark Plant: As you have line-of-sight at 9 miles to a 100kW per channel transmitter, then your receiver could be suffering from too much signal. The effects of such a situation often appear the same as too little a signal.

An attenuator can be fitted in-line with the aerial lead and acts to reduce the amplitude of signals which is the opposite of what an amplifier does.

The higher the gain of the aerial, the more likely this may be an issue. If the cowboy aerial installer fitted a large high-gain aerial then this is almost certainly OTT for your location.

At a location such as yours, a DM Log should be fine:

Mark Plant: Firstly you need to check that the receiver has actually tuned to Winter Hill for the BBC mux. It should show C62on the information screen. If there is another frequency shown, C45 being the most likely incorrect option, you will need to delete the BBC channels and do a manual tune on C62, or do a factory reset to completely clear the channel list and manually insert all the Winter Hill frequencies. If however the correct frequency is currently tuned in there is a possibility that the signal is too strong, or you have interference on C62. Too strong a signal will require an attenuator to be inserted in the aerial feed. Also try repositioning the connecting leads relative to the TV, as sometimes interaction takes place between HDMI and/or aerial fly leads and the TV tuner.

I live in Haywards Heath West Sussex, for the last 2-3 weeks i have poor reception ( locking or total break up of picture ) I think I'm on the Heathfield transmitter but I'm on a communal aerial system. Just wondering if the fault is my end or if there is a wider fault?? Any one else having probs in the RH16 area ?
