My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Joyce: Maybe the transmitter is off, maybe it's a communal aerial system which has developed a fault... Without knowledge of your location, preferably in the form of postcode or that of a nearby property such as a shop, it isn't possible to be more specific.

Kirkby Stephen
Hi, I live in Soulby (CA17 4PJ) nr Kirkby Stephen and when the weather is bad, and the wind is howling most of our channels (Freeview) are pixelated or at worst showing No Signal. I note that we get our signals from Caldbeck transmitter and we seem to be just out of the transmission area. However, the only channels that do not seem affected are Channel 4, E4, 4+1 and Quest + 1. Is there anything we can do to improve this situation? I am not interested in taking Sky. Look forward to a response.
kind regards,
Stephen Prince

Stephen Prince: This sounds like trees blowing about. If so then maybe resiting your aerial. If there are trees that you can see as possibly being the issue then you can try moving it to somewhere else, if such a spot is available.

Stephen Prince: I should point out that the trees aren't forced to be within a few hundred metres of you they could be anywhere between you and the transmitter.
Here is a plot of the terrain:
Terrain between ( m a.g.l.) and (antenna m a.g.l.) - Optimising UK DTT Freeview and Radio aerial location
The signal path runs low to the ground and is even blocked at 2 miles out, so anything on the ground which moves when the wind blows could be your culprit.

m.whitbrook: I wouldn't expect retuning to make any difference as, providing that the correct signals (i.e. those of the desired transmitter) are tuned, then the receiver will give the best picture from the signal provided from the aerial lead.
Perhaps it is local interference, an AM radio may locate. It might be worth trying the set-top aerial on the lounge TV to see if the same poor reception ensues.
Also, what is the strength and quality like? Some devices give more away than others so it's worth looking at the all to see which might be most helpful.

m.whitbrook: What is the reception like on the local Birmingham multiplex on UHF channel 51? The service might be on logical channel 8, although as I'm not in the area I'm unable to confirm as I see that BLTV has had issues.
Also, the same question for COM7, the new HD multiplex which carries BBC News HD (only for HD receivers)?

My problem is this - I have a 4G flat amplified indoor aerial and I constantly have to adjust its position in tiny amounts to get clear reception.
However, I move it one way - I can watch CBS Action but BBC1 disappears.
I move it the other way - BBC1 comes back, and CBS Action vanishes along with ITV, C4 and Five.
My mother's TV in the next room uses an older, pre-digital era, aerial and gets crystal clear reception for everything.
I suppose if worst comes to worst, I could take a tap off that aerial - but that would involve me buying around 60ft of co-ax cable, and "explaining things" to my mother, who is a wee elderly lady.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? I'm covered by the Roseneath transmitter.
