To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Marshall: No, you can't get a reduced TV Licence. You can receive the BBC channels which are funded by your licence fee for all 1,000+ transmitters, the ones which you have lost are broadcast on commercial multiplexes and receive no licence fee funding. If you provide a full postcode we can look at the coverage prediction for your location and offer further advice.

Marshall: You've only provided a partial postcode, we need a full one to access your coverage prediction. Use one from a nearby shop or pub etc if you don't want to give your own postcode. You only loose the HD versions of BBC Four and BBC News by using Knockmore, the SD versions are broadcast from every transmitter.

John:

Either your TV has failed or you have a serious aerial problem. It will not be a transmitter fault as they are always resolved as quickly as possible, usualy just a few hours at most.

If you have a friendly neighbour, see if your TV works on their Freeview aerial system. If it does, then your own aerial is faulty - get an aerial contractor to check it out. If it does not work than that proves the TV is faulty.

John: If the problem has been happening for months then it is almost certainly your aerial system that is at fault. Start by checking for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV.

Marshall: Knockmore doesn't even show on the prediction for your postcode so I'm not surprised that it's too weak to be usable. COM7 & COM8 are showing as no signal from Durris for your postcode which again is no surprise as COM7 & COM8 are only broadcast at 14.46kW compared to PSB1-3 at 100kW and COM4-6 at 50kW from Durris. Freesat is probably your best option for reliable reception.
