To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;



2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;



3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;



5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;



6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;



7) do a complete scan for channels again.



The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Currently experiencing problems with tv channels 33,34,42 & 82 in that when watching live via my Humax HDR 1800t the picture freezes momentarily the sound remains constant, when watching a recording the problem shows up as a disturbance of the picture, these channels are shown as being part of Hannington channels 40 and 46 tv channels outside of these are ok. I have recently had a new tv ariel fitted. The signal strength is shown as between 89 & 92% on 40 & 46

This sounds as though it could be some sort of interference, but it's slightly odd as you aren't experiencing (that you've mentioned) a similar problem with BBC and ITV/C4/C5 tv channels on adjacent UHF channels.
There are no currently reported problems that I can find for Hannington and it's not listed for Planned Engineering.
As you haven't given a full postcode, I can't check if there are any particular problems that affect your area.
The signal strengths you mention should be fine. What is important is the quality figures which should be 100% or Bit Error figures (BER) should be low.

The TV channels you've mentioned are carried on the SDN/COM4 & ArqB/COM6 multiplexes.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which TV channels are carried on which multiplex.
You should be seeing similar problems with other channels on the SDN & ArqB multiplexes - if you aren't, it could be an issue with your Humax.

As you've had a new aerial, was the downlead fully replaced with high quality double screened coax eg. CT100 or similar?
Do you know the make/model/type of aerial - also how is it different from your old one?
Do you have any distribution amp/splitter to provide signal to more than one outlet/tv?

Check all the connections between your equipment and aerial. A bad connection can affect individual multiplexes rather than all of them due to what's called standing waves (as can eg. water in a coax if it's old).
Make sure any HDMI leads are well away from aerial and flyleads. HDMI has been know to cause interference in some cases.

If the problem continues, post back with more detail, postcode etc.

No receiving HD Chamnel from the BBC itv C4 or C5. I'm on the winter hill Transmitter. This started a couple of days ago not receiving the HD Channels is it down to the recent cold weather. Having done numerous Automatic Scans I keep getting 91 channels added 24 Radio. Just done a first time installation and again just 91 channels no HD. I use an external indoor Aerial. I've checked for any planned Maintinance and not see any.

The transmitter doesn't appear to be listed for Planned Engineering, and I can't find any faults listed either.
The cold weather as such is not causing any reception problems in general, unless you have some sort of odd fault on your aerial or coax installation.

You have not been very clear - you are using an external aerial but it's indoors? What do you mean by this - is it in a loft?
Have you moved it recently or changed anything about that might affect reception - metal objects, water tanks etc.?
You maybe in a spot that has marginal reception of the BBCB HD/PSB3 multiplex, you'd need to provide a full postcode for us to check on that.
Try a manual tune on UHF C35 which is the one that carries the HD mux at Winter Hill.

Chris.SE: Hi Chris thanks for the reply. I have an RGTech Monarch 50 Black Indoor Freeview HDTV Aerial which is used for the bedroom. I did try to manual retune C35 couple of days ago but no channels came up which as you say is used for HD Channels. Maybe I incorrectly inputted the wrong numbers to confirm it's 585.8 is it or 08. Will give it a try later when home from work. Last night I did first time installation again on my Bush TV and just have a present 94 channels. Followed the correct steps as mentioned for automatic scan of channels one aerial had been disconnected then reconnected.

None of Winter Hill's UHF channels use an offset. PSB3 did before clearance and that was the only one, they're now all exactly on channel, so C35 is 585MHz. (Unfortunately the transmitter page here shows an offset which hopefully the site owner will correct, as well as the old channels for two local muxes).

Any indoor aerial needs a good signal to work well and they are all affected by not only their position, but anything else in a room. Also, things like Xmas LED light sets are notorious for generating interference which may affect you.

As for the type of aerial you have, all these advertising claims about how many mile away they work and that they are HD or Digital is all advertising bull. Aerials are aerials they pick up RF signals, they do not distinguish between HD, Digital or Analogue!

If you have moved anything at all since before losing the channels, or anything outside has appeared somewhere near the line-of-sight, then that can affect the signal. I don't know how far you are from the transmitter or predicted reception as you haven't given a full postcode, so I can't comment on that.

Chris.SE: Postcode is PR4 2NA regarding intererance my dad did put the Christmas tree up in the conservatory so that could answer a few things. Will check the line of sight too. The aerial I've not had a problem with had it a couple of years but as you suggest a roof top aerial would be better. Will check C35 later thanks for the reply.

Hi.Well, you are 31km from the transmitter, and the direction is compass bearing 123 degrees - that's about halfway between ESE and SE. Whilst the signal strength in the area is generally predicted to be good, you should also get the Local Preston Multiplex on UHF C40. But whether that aerial is capable of providing adequate signal to the set is certainly questionable!

The only way to get a better idea is look in your TV Tuning section where there should be an indication of signal strength and quality (or Errors/BER), where that is will vary from model to model, maybe something like Signal Test or maybe in Manual Tuning etc.
Post up the figures for the multiplexes you are getting and that will give us a much better idea of how marginal things may be.

Chris.SE: Thanks Chris I finally sorted the problem last night by going into settings and doing a rescan in the settings on a different uhf number rather than through installation. All working now. I will look into the Preston transmitter to see what the signal quality is like on that.
