Can I use an existing sky dish with a freeview box? and if so can the two servic
No, you cannot use a satellite box to receive terrestrial programmes.
I don't want to use a satellite box I have a freeview box. I want to know if an existing dish for sky can be use with the freeview box.Can I use a cable splitter and run one end to the sky box the the other to a freeview box and get the freeview channels.
You cannot use a Freeview receiver with a satellite dish, only an aerial.
You also cannot split a satellite signal from a dish, if you want to run more than one box you must use a dual- or quad-LNB on the satellite dish and have a cable to each satellite receiver.

Trev: Yes, in theory you can, as if there are only two leads in the loft and one is from the aerial, then that indicates that the wall plates are just linked together in the actual house with a single connection from one going into the loft.
This means that if you couple the Sky boxes RF "output" into a wall plate in the living room the signal should pass through to the other similar one in the kitchen where the signal can then feed into the TV in a normal fashion.
If though you are aware of separate leads from the house going into the loft then just link them together.

Hi - I have a Freesat connector cable in to my living room but just bought a new TV with built in Freeview . . . can I just connect the new TV to the freesat box with the HD cable? Will the TV then tune in to Freesat rather than Freeview or is this just wishful thinking?

I am a techophobe. Got sky+ box in main living room on a flat screen TV with inbuilt freeview and have arial on the roof with arial lead plugged in to that TV/box combination. If a put a tv in another room that doesn't have an arial in it, is there anyway I can get sky or freeview on that new TV without paying for extra subscriptions using extensions or special kit? thanks

Steph: If the FreeSat recorder has an HDMI connector the you can just connect it to the TV if it has likewise, and if your TV is Freeview (only) then you require a normal aerial for it to operate, as the TV will not find anything during a scan without it.
You could of course not bother with the Freeview side of it and view TV purely via the Freesat receiver, as your TV would in effect be acting like a monitor.

Trev: Sorry for delay in replying but just noticed your posting, and a somewhat belated "yes" in answer to your question.

ra: Well, if you want the other room to be able to view different programmes to that of the living room then you will have to run a Freeview aerial feed into that other room.
Likewise the same will apply if you wish the other room to be able to view different non subscription Sky channels, although in that case the feed will have to be from a spare outlet port on the dish (if available) and this can feed an old (any) Sky box which doesn't require a card to view.
If its not so important to view a different Sky programme to that of the living room then you could use the Sky boxes RF modulators output to feed an analogue signal to a analogue capable TV in a second room.
That said though, so long as your Sky+ box isn't an Amstrad DRX595 as they aren't fitted with modulators and so an external modulator has to be used.
If any technical help is required with any action you might decide to take, just ask.

Hi can anyone help, just moved into a new home and it has a sky+ dish installed. I have this plumed into my main TV in the lounge. Now in my bedroom there is a normal Ariel cable and connector which i want to use for freeview, but when I try to receive a signal nothing is found. Tried more than one TV with the same effect. I traced the cable over the roof and found it connected directly into the sky+ dish ???????, why would this be, and what is it used for if i can not get any kind of signal off it.
Tks
Paul

Paul Herrett: Well as you have obviously realised by what you have mentioned this shouldn't be! at least not "if" its an ordinary cable plus co-ax plug.
That said though when you say its connected directly into the Sky dish are you meaning another outlet port on the LNB? as if it is then the previous occupier has possibly rigged up some non standard satellite device, which of course could be anything.
This of course could turn out to your benefit, as if you want Freeview then all you would require to do (in theory anyway) is purchase an aerial, take the cable from the LNB, and connect the cable into the aerial.
If you supply your post code this would enable your reception possibilities to be checked on, plus any other advice given that was thought to be applicable.
This being said provided that its definitely Freeview you wish to use, as if the cable is connected into the LNB then you could use Freesat if you changed the co-ax plug over to a "F" connector.
