If the BBC ever goes on line only for its television channels this must signal the end of the TV licence fee which would then mean freeview on TV would be for commercial channels only. What would happen to and who would finance radio services?

Robert : If the BBC took advertising it would destroy the commercial broadcasting market taking lots of smaller broadcasters out of business and even risking ITV loosing much of it's advertising income. There is no viable way of replacing the licence fee with a subscription service without the BBC going online only, which leave millions of people currently watching on non-smart TVs that don't have iPlayer unable to watch any BBC programmes, not to mention the millions of older people who watch the BBC but are not confident using streaming services (a problem which will naturally reduce over time). That would certainly make a lot of difference to a lot of people, most of them probably ending up worse off.

Er, No. The BBC are the main force behind UKTV Freeview channels such as Drama, Dave, Yesterday etc. They've been taking advertising income for years while telling the public that they need to be funded through the TV licence fee.
The BBC should be disbanded.

Robert : UKTV is a completely separate operation and the profits it generates allows the BBC to do more than they could with just the licence fee. The BBC will never be allowed to take advertising on their own channels as the rest of the broadcast industry are opposed to it and will lobby the government and Ofcom to prevent it happening.

UKTV is another avenue of income from the predominant supplier of content, the BBC.

Don't agree with you. he's quite right about a lot of the much smaller broadcasters IMHO. There's just not enough money to go around. That situation was exacerbated during covid which is why COM8 closed down

Com 8 closed down to make more room for increased mobile phone coverage.
The frequency space that comm 8, or whatever, was using got auctioned off to the big Mobile phone service providers. It had absolutely nothing to do with the pandemic.
The other channels cant tell the BBC what they can do and can't do.
It's not the EU you know.

Both COMs 7&8 have closed down to make more room for mobile signals but COM8 closed early because of the pandemic in June 2020 I provided links previously to the statement that was issued, you need to check your facts Robert before spouting off.

Pandemics make no difference to television broadcasting equipment.
This is work that would be happening anyway to make room for more frequency usage for the 5G and mobile networks as that's were the perceived future lays.
Other media companies cannot tell others media companies what kind of advertising or business model that they can and cannot use. How misguided are you planning on getting?
