This transmitter has no current reported problems

The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Cirencester (Gloucestershire, England) transmitter.

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Could you please tell me what DAB signal is like and what stations I'm likely to receive in Stratton Cirencester. I've just fitted an outside aerial but the signal strength seems to be very up and down. Maybe I have the aerial on the wrong side of my house ? Your input would be much appreciated.

Brian Hudson: 100% Agree, my wife had me tear her car apart because her favourite DAB radio channels keep cutting-out. Tried retuning but her favourite channels had disappeared from the list.

Paul Maidens: Which stations is your wife struggling to receive? The Cirencester transmitter only broadcasts the Gloucestershire and Swindon local DAB multiplexes and a low power filler for the D1 National mux. It doesn't broadcast either the BBC National or SDL National muxes.

Paul Maidens:

First, I should point out that Brian Hudson's post was back in 2014 !! Things will have changed a bit and StevensOnln1 had given you some detail. It depends on where you are as to whether you'll get signals from other transmitters as well. If you provide a full postcode we may be able to advise on that.

If you are going to retune, you need to be in a location where your wanted signals are received. You cannot tune to signals that aren't there and the retune will just clear them from the list.
Once you wanted stations are tuned, you may just have to accept that you may not get them all at all times.

Paul Maidens: Virgin Anthems is carried on the Sound Digital national commercial multiplex which does not have a transmitter in Cirencester, and this is why the signal will not be as good, particularly as you get lower down, including and in particular in the town centre.

Sound Digital (SDL or Sound Digital Limited) is the newer of the two national commercial multiplexes and it was launched in 2016. Its coverage isn't as great as the other, as it uses fewer transmitters. The other multiplex, Digital One (D1), broadcasts from the Cirencester transmitter, to the north of the town. Blunsdon is your closest SDL transmitter, and it transmits D1 as well.

Paul Maidens: Virgin Anthems is carried on the SDL National multiplex, which is not broadcast from the Cirencester transmitter. You're most likely receiving SDL from the Blunsdon transmitter near Swindon, with perhaps some weak signals from Oxford or Mendip.
