Can I use a ex-Sky box to receive aerial Freeview?
I am afraid not.
The satellite receivers cannot receive Freeview and vice-versa. Whilst the underlying technology is the same (DVB) the satellite receivers do not have the capacity to receive the DVB-T terrestrial transmissions, only the DVB-S satellite ones.

Emily - You need an External Aerial as the BT vision box requires A Freeview signal input.

Tony Murphy - No - A Satellite receiver would require a suitable DVB-C tuner module. Some FTA Free to air satellite receivers particularly Linux boxes have optional plug and play tuner models where you can have a options for a DVB-S DVB-C or DVB-T tuners in whatever permutation you want.

Where i live the we have a communal tv system
We are supplied with an analogue and digital signal
To watch the digital channels we have to use a DVB_C receiver,no card is required as the signal is not encrypted.
Do u think i could use a virgin v+ box as a pvr or do they have to be connected to virgin cable to work

Tony Murphy - Have you checked to see what cable service your being provided with? You should be able to get this perhaps by enquiring from a neighbour or the property management factor or company.

Hi Les
I live in Gibraltar and our cable service is provided by a local company, they get U.K. tv using satillite dishes and then distribute the signal to the local housing estates via fibre optic cables.
We use dvb-c receivers in order to pickup the channels on our tv's.The receivers only have one tuner so can only record what we watch.I thought if i got a v+ box i could use that as a pvr

Tony Murphy - I would check first with the cable provider I'm sure they will offer advice on this. What you don't want is to buy equipment that can't provide you with the recording facility your looking for.
