SeaBee I still think ignoring customers is an absolutely apalling practice for a store and a walkout is quite justified in these instances. Alexander would have walked out too if he he was around today wanting to buy a tele or a mobile phone. I reckon he'd be a bit of a grumpy old man too about the direction his invention had taken, especially he he was on a Northern train in the rush hour listening to the verbal hogwash I have to put up with. He would also probably smile, like me, at how much money some people waste having to pay additional re-dial and re-connection costs as their mobile signal dies in the same tunnels every day, thick or what !!

Just to make you giggle
Mate of mine brought a new tv from one of the big stores mentioned, not saying which one.
"New HD tv the guy says we can offer you a free sky box with that".
My mate thought well what the hell, and took the offer.
But wait.
Sales man "When you have the new tv hooked up to the new sky box you will need an extra special all singing all dancing gold lead"
My mate excepted this and paid the man £70 for a SCART lead.
For a start how does a scart lead get HD, it's called a hdmi lead for a reason.
These guys I agree are on a very low wage, and yes we all have to earn a living so the wife can raid our accounts to buy the latest shoes.
But really mr big store owner at what point is this classed as
THEFT from the customer ?????
Or non trained staff ??????

Ian: In this case, selling a SCART cable to provide HD is clearly against the law.

Your friend should contact Consumer Direct to get a full refund if the store won't do it with a polite ask.

You can contact them on Consumer Direct or phone 08454 040506

Des Collier: It's odd that people don't think of that. I think it spoils their "shopping experience".

It's a bit like the "get three quotes" advice. People know they should, but they don't like to ask.

I wish people could harden themselves to shopping sometimes with a visit to a souq.

Trying to get justice out of COMET is impossible. They once sold me a Widescreen Philips TV which was faulty from DAY 1 and eventaully replaced it with an even worse second hand model from "CURRYS" which arrived in a CURRYS VAN !!! (who aren't even part of the same group as Comet), simply because the manager of Currys was a mate !! COMET refused to replace this with a new one, when I discovered the colour was faulty on it and it had burned in images on the screen, saying I had left it past their 10 day cooling off period which was nonesense. After three years of complaints I gave up.

I have never been near COMET since or CURRYS for that matter, chosing a B&O set which had a perfect analogue picture.

Nedbod: Why don't you call Trading Standards? They usually sort this kind of thing out for people.

Bit late now this was back in 2003. I got so worked up at the time I don't want to relive any more angst. I have just put it down to experience and I don't want to experience either COMET or CURRYS ever again. I should have guessed when the two thugs who delivered the replacement wouldn't explain why there was no paperwork with it and spent more time trying to sell me SKY than explaining how to use my what turned out to be not NEW tele.

Nedbod: I see, that was quite a while ago.

I would suspect that people are on commission if they are so insistent.

Hi Nedboy/Brintist: Suffered at Comet's too last year. Bought £60 worth of Toshiba DVD Upscaling Player but HDMI selector won't work after 1 day. The Manageress would not replaced it for brand new unit but insisted that it would be sent for repair. What a bloody cheek! One day old unit and to be out pocket. First thought was I am glad that I've not bought a £1000 telly? I raised my voice in complaint and the lady then reluctantly offered my money back. To think that Tesco will refund similar electronic items for upto 30 days for any reasons they are obviously not 'customer is king' policy savvy. So no more Comet for me anymore.
