Magwall: You can get a Freeview box for £10 in some places, there is no problem using both Freeview and Freesat to get the widest range of channels.

Jack: UKTV runs Dave, Yesterday and G.O.L.D on Freeview. UKTV is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Virgin Media (currently, though they're trying to sell their 50% stake). They don't have rights to show any Star Trek series at present, as far as we know.
'Channel One' was run by Sky, who bought it from Virgin Media when they sold off their wholly-owned channels.
Slots on Freeview - that is, the actual bandwidth to transmit in - are auctioned whenever they become available. You can find Arqiva's rules for Mux C and D at GUIDELINES FOR FAIR, REASONABLE AND NON-DISCRIMINATORY ALLOCATION OF CAPACITY ON ARQIVA SERVICES LIMITED DTT MULTIPLEXES . I believe there is currently one unused slot available on switched-over Mux C (ArqA), which is matched with a slot on Mux B in regions that haven't yet switched over - the BBC and Arqiva asked for permission to do this, matching the permission granted for Sky Sports 1 and 2 to run on Mux B/ArqB.
Challenge is on Mux A, run by SDN which is a subsidiary of ITV plc. For competition reasons they are also required to be fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory, but I can't find a reference document. That means that if a slot became available, there would be a bidding process.
Even if Sky closed Challenge, and Logical Channel Number (LCN) 20 became available, and UKTV decided to set up such a channel (and acquire the content to put on it), there's no guarantee that the channel would get LCN 20. Channel numbers are allocated by DMOL, a joint company owned by all six multiplex operators. Their policy for allocating LCNs is at DTT Multiplex Operators Limited LCN Policy

I have recently stopped being able to get any signal for Dave)
I too have lost Dave and Dave Ja Vu within the last couple of weeks or so. I've followed advice to reset, clear all channels and rescan. Still no Dave etc. I have changed nothing. My transmitter is Stockland Hill, Devon. I get a good signal on all other channels but suddenly no Dave etc. Anyone any ideas? Have they pulled Dave from Freeview?

Ian: Dave is still being broadcast on Freeview. Have you just lost Dave or the whole of the multiplex?

Many thanks for quick response. Just had a careful look and, yes, I think I've lost the whole of the multiplex. I guess this points to bad signal strength. Strange as it has happened without any obvious reason - same aerial, same booster etc.

SUCCESS !!! Many thanks for your help. I was mistaken when I said that nothing had changed. I wasn't thinking laterally! Tried disconnecting all boxes in turn as you advised. Nothing seemed to be having an effect and still none of the 'Dave' muxes would tune in. Then I had a bit of insight. I have a Humax HDR FOX T2 PVR, added recently. This is what feeds the TV (HDMI) and Dave tuned in OK with it. BUT just upgraded the PVR software to allow access to BBC iPlayer and added a USB wifi dongle to connect to my wireless network. Unplugged the dongle, rescanned and lo and behold DAVE etc. back. Obvious now when you point it out. Still, we all learn by our mistakes. If I plug the dongle back in, Dave etc. disappears as before. But when I unplug it, Dave is back without a re-scan.
Thought I'd go into this detail in case someone else has the same trouble as me. Again many thanks for your help. You're a STAR !!!
