Channel 4 HD to start on Freesat
Channel 4 and Freesat today announced that Freesat HD viewers will soon be able to enjoy Channel 4 HD when the channel launches on the subscription free satellite TV service in April.
Channel 4 HD becomes the fourth HD channel on Freesat joining BBC One HD, BBC HD, and ITV1 HD.
Freesat Managing Director Emma Scott said: "This is fantastic news for Freesat. C4HD is a high quality channel and we're sure it will prove popular with our discerning viewers.
"The addition of a fourth HD channel makes Freesat an even more attractive offer for savvy TV viewers looking for quality TV without monthly bills."

I've already done it. I hope it can be done and soon. There are surely others out there experiencing the same problem. My previous experience with Fortec Star is actually good. They responded quickly and sorted out my problem. If C4 hasve gone down this route, others may follow.

AVC is ISO/IEC standard 14496-10: MPEG 4 Part 10 Advanced Video Coding. It's also known as ITU-T H.264. It's now in its 6th edition, incorporating various corrections, amendments, and extensions for 3D, but there isn't really a 'version 2' as such. It describes how the picture data is encoded - making use of the fact that each picture generally changes little from the previous one to reduce the amount of data that has to be transmitted.
The profiles define what features of the standard are available to be used - it isn't all mandatory, so basic profiles can be used for less powerful devices and the stream can still be used for more powerful ones. The levels define the maximum data rate and amount of storage required to decode. (An encoded picture refers back to previous pictures, so those previous pictures have to be available for the decoder to read them.)
It's possible that Channel 4 have newer encoding hardware and are using some features not widely used by the other channels, but still part of the High Profile. Or maybe it's a feature that was specified a bit loosely before and was tightened up in a correction or later edition. Most likely, though, the box has discarded a picture that a later picture refers to, possibly because it doesn't have enough memory to truly meet Level 4.

Well, many people are going to be unhappy at finding their equipment is obsolete. Quite why C4 would choose to alienate viewers and prevent them watching C4 HD is beyond me. The stuttering picture makes it quite unwatchable. I wonder if they realised this would affect some equipment and just shrugged their shoulders while muttering "tough...", or if they just didn't think it out properly. I await a reply from Fortec Star with great interest.

Speedy response from Fortec Star saying they acknowledge the problem and are working to rectify it. A fix will be avilable in the next firmware update, they say. If they can fix it, at least the boves won't be obsolete.

Satellite transmissions usualy know no boundaries, but boxes based on special EPGs such as Sky, Freesat probably have your post code input by you so it might be Freesat limit Ch4 to England post codes.
I guess if not being recieved by you you could put an England post code in.

If I get it in the Highlands, it will surely be available in Ardrossan. I don't use a Freesat box now but when I did there was an option to get non-Freesat channels. That would get you the ITV programmes that STV don't show.
