Channel 4 HD to start on Freesat
Channel 4 and Freesat today announced that Freesat HD viewers will soon be able to enjoy Channel 4 HD when the channel launches on the subscription free satellite TV service in April.
Channel 4 HD becomes the fourth HD channel on Freesat joining BBC One HD, BBC HD, and ITV1 HD.
Freesat Managing Director Emma Scott said: "This is fantastic news for Freesat. C4HD is a high quality channel and we're sure it will prove popular with our discerning viewers.
"The addition of a fourth HD channel makes Freesat an even more attractive offer for savvy TV viewers looking for quality TV without monthly bills."

Was not up to this morning so CH4 HD have done something this afternoon to enable me to receive it.
Can't find it on Freesat though, anyone know its allocated EPG number?
Regards

David: Freesat have not yet announced that, but it will be either 104 or 126 I would have thought.

Yes should be 104 put it will not be, would upset SD viewers. Sky have failed to use 101, 102, 103 for thier HD services I'm told.
I can undrestand this, but Freesat should get a block of numbers set apart for HD programs but I'm afraid Freesat seem to be a stick in the mud organisation.
I asked Panasonic why no feature on my TV set to Move the order they replied Freesat will NOT let them do the feature.

David: This is because these channels all have regional services that are not yet availiable in HD. C4 and C5 have them for advertisers.

Just noticed that the present program on CH4 HD is 4x3 and on SD is stretched out to 16x9.
Tv Aspect for both is set at Auto, so something in the 2 signaling of aspect in the 2 transmissions id different.

Brian if for example I was able to move 119 to possition 3 (103) I would still see the HD adverts wether it be in the third possition or 119.
In other words either way I will NOT be viewing local adverts and will not see Yorkshire TV local News etc but Granadas.

David: But you may not see the correct adverts, and ITV1 is there for the advertisers above all else.
The same goes for Channel 4 and Channel 5.

On ITV1 HD I see what I think are Granada area adverts as the programs are that areas of course not the actual area I live in.
It could be of course ITV1, CH4 and Five will do different adverts on HD versions to suit the wider areaa rather a local regional ones.
Any way the result is apparent for the viewer that Freesats EPG numbers are a real mess and ill thought out.

I have a Samsung HD ready TV. What do I need to enable me to receive HD channels?

David: On satellite, each version of the ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5, BBC One and BBC Two regions have to be carried as separated broadcasts.
Until there are (a) enough viewers and (b) some more transponders on Astra 2E, the broadcasters cannot provide the HD channels for each and every region.
Until then, these channels will have their statutory SD channels in the EPG, with "national" or "half-national" versions in the EPG in separate slots.
