What price for an aerial installation?
In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"
OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.
I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).
So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?
Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?
Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?

Ron - have you tried a Sketchley loop?
I have a house in Herne Hill, S London - facing Crystal Palace. Some time ago a new tenant asked me where the aerial socket was. I had to think a bit before I realised that TVs worked there with nothing at all in the aerial input.

I think £50 for an aerial installation is fair, after all the rigger only has to spend a few thousand on advertising, couple of grand on phones free-phone numbers and mobiles. Newish van (boarded out and sign written) couple of grands worth of stock so he has the parts his customers require.Kit,ladders drill roof climbers and all hand tools. Insurance liability and vehicle, don't for get the road tax and the vat he pays. Fill up his van with cheap uk diesel its only£1.40 pl and drive a few miles to the job climb on the roof, lash align the aerial run a new cable supply the chimney cradle, pole and lashing kit (aluminium) which is cheap these days) fit a new coax plug re-tune the free-view box and have the stationary to write the bill and guarantee. £50 spot on price for a rigger to pay for the advert you choose, pay for the free phone number you ring have and install a quality installation which should last 25>30years Think I will be generous with my tip to him.

Hi everybody i went to a customers house today to price for putting points into some bedrooms while i was there she said could i do something about her sky cables. What i found shocked me they tha brought the cables in one wall and the tv was on the other side of the room but there was a door inbetween so instead of going around the frame ( this would also have looked dreadful ) they had just left it on the floor. What makes it even worse is that behind the tv the wall was an outside. Pleased to say i got the job as well as replacing the two ugly runs with one shotgun coming in behind the tv and hopefuly a million brownie points from the customer.

Hey mazbar
That could even be sky themselves, chatting to one of their engineers a few weeks back. I am actually surprissed they make the billions they do.
This guy actually had his step ladders removed from his van because he says they are not allowed to work off them as they are unsafe.
He was telling me that they can only use the triples that they are provided with, so this makes it almost impossible to do a ground floor flat (which sky no longer seem to touch flats either) but also a low cable run.
He was telling me also because of the internal damage they have been warned to avoid tacking internally to stop the skirting splitting or wall paper tearing.
I don't know about you buddy but I have never had a problem fixing cables to skirtings or using a step ladder

Due to a disabled person in the house we had the right to a Freeview installation for £40 all in from the conversion arrangements.
Although this could easily and safely be done by climbing through a large window onto the central V of a double pitch roof, or with a ladder over the pediment wall, each of 3 successive visits decided it could not be done because of the rules they had to follow. Notably no step ladders; and no lifting ladders onto roofs.
So they settled for a wall mounted Satellite for the same price. Then lots more rules. And apparently a fair percentage get inspected later to check that it was done as said.
