hi.. Bit confused if I can actually use my old sky dish for a TV with built in hd free-view , as people are saying its a terrestrial Ariel only? I was just planning to re route the cables from my dish to my office so I can watch the built in free-view, is this possible without buying anything else, ie card, box etc.. thanks Jono

Jono Metcalfe: What you've been told is correct. Freeview is a non-subscription terrestrial service; i.e. its signals come from transmitters on the ground and therefore requires a terrestrial aerial.
There is a non-subscription satellite service called Freesat for which a Sky dish can be used. Sky also has a non-subscription service called "Freesat from Sky".

i have an old portable tv connected to a sky dish and receive freesat channels. if i buy a new tv with built in freeview and continue to use my sky digibox to receive the freesat channels, will i also be able to view freeview channels, which will, combined with freesat, give me slightly more channels.

j arthurton: It depends where abouts you are. Around 90% of the population can receive all Freeview channels which includes some not on Freesat. Around 8% only get the basic set which are all on Freesat.

If you let us know your location (preferrably in the form of a post code) then we can suggest the likelihood of success with the extra channels on Freeview.

I would be grateful for some help. I subscribe to Sky+ but not multiroom, although I can receive one program which is being viewed on the sky TV, I have an old Sky box and an analog TV in another room,is it possible to receive a signal through the old box? Problem is that we have a booster, Labgear into which goes the analog aerial and the sky feed. It only has room for two connections, so I split the sky feed and added an analog coax, but it messed up the sky+ tv signal. If I split the roof aerial before it goes into the booster will that work? or should I just bite the bullet and either buy a new tv or a freeview box?

Linda: If you have an old Sky box and an analogue TV in another room then its by far the best policy to run another single feed from the dishes LNB to the room the old Sky box is in, as this will enable all "free to view" channels to be viewed on the analogue TV, that is "if" the LNB fitted to the dish has spare outlets on it, which it might have as Sky engineers sometimes just fit a quad instead of a dual LNB as the cost difference is negligible between the two.
Needless to say with the Sky box being coupled into the analogue TV via a scart lead "if" the TV has a scart socket, as if it doesn't then you will have to use the old Sky boxes RF1 into the aerial socket of the TV, then using the same procedure as you must have already done after installing the co-ax cable from the Sky+ boxes RF outlet through to the analogue TV.
There isn't any way you can get another signal to the old Sky box other than the method described, as a satellite cable from an LNB cannot be split.

Hi Brian,
I have got sky Amstrad box model no. 550.060
I am using an old sky subscription card with communal dish to receive free sat channels
I cannot receive all the free sat channels mentioned in your free sat channel list. i.e. sky channel 323 that says no satellite signal is being received.
I am receivding other 100 channels with same box and subs card absolutely fine.
How can I receive all channels mentioned in your free sat channles list with same box and subs card?
Much appreciate your help
