Mark: I wouldn't personally advise a stacker to be used, because apart from the fact that you have to install the sender unit behind the LNB meaning that you require to have access to the dish in the first place, also in practice these devices can sometimes prove to be quite critical in setting up in roughly a similar way as sometimes happens when people experience problems when setting up a magic eye for remote channel changing, insomuch that in a few cases it might require a cable that's already installed to be changed to one of the exactly type specified, as intermittent reception problems are liable to occur if you don't.

With regards to the number of input feeds required on a satellite PVR, I feel that you are possibly getting mixed up with terrestrial Freeview devices which only requires one input, this basically because that unlike with satellite equipment the polarity of the signal being received does not come into the equation, as "all" (no matter of what brand) twin channel satellite PVR's require two inputs, and a Sky+ box is really just a twin channel PVR but dedicated mainly for Sky use.

Its because that in twin channel satellite recording equipment the tuners operate totally independently from the other, and this is why each of them requires a separate feed, i.e:- one tuner might be recording a programme received on vertical polarisation whereas the other tuner might be recording another programme received horizontally, and there are no exceptions to this! so anything you might see with a single input is "not" a twin channel satellite device but more likely a box designed for Freeview.

Of course the aerial socket tells you instantly what

Mark: In case you are wondering about the somewhat abrupt end to my reply, this is the remaining part of my reply which I have just noticed I didn't paste into the reply box properly.

Of course the aerial socket tells you instantly what a box is designed to receive, "F" sockets (screw threads) being satellite.

paulwinman: You cannot use any form of splitter on a satellite cable as the box sends polarity switching instructions (2 voltage levels) back to the LNB, you will have to purchase a quad LNB and run another cable from its output.

By the way quad LNB's being obtainable from numerous e-bay sellers for just about under £10.00 for the kit, and all you "carefully" do is pull the old LNB from the end of the arm and push the new LNB complete with bracket onto it.

Paul it isnt going to cost you about £10 as you allready have 4 cables you are going to need an octi lnb with 8 outputs they cost a lot more plus the extra coax lead hope this helps

paulwinman: Sorry, Mazbar is quite correct, as for some reason or another I mistakenly thought you were just intending to change the single box over to a Sky+ one forgetting that you were retaining it as well.

paulwinman: Just to add to that already said, this is a link to a company that supplies LNB's of the type mentioned, the one seen on the second bottom of the page of the link possibly being the type you require "if" its a Sky mini dish that you have, albeit I would rate the one second down as technically superior if an adaptor is available to allow it fit onto a mini-dish arm, that is if thats what you use.

Should this type be of interest you could give them a quick phone call and tell them what style of dish you presently have and they would soon advise, as the advert doesnt give the neck sizes and although its likely to be 40mm its best not taken for granted.

Hi

I have a dish which feeds a Sky+ HD box in our lounge.

We've just had extension built with a cable connected up which we originally thought about connecting to an aerial in the loft but would it be possible to connect it to the existing Sky dish and use our old Sky+ box?

Due to get TV delivered on Friday with Freeview HD so would like to get it sorted soon so we can start using the room.

Many thanks for any advice.

sarahsamuel@hotmail.com: If you have Sky+ then you will already have two leads from the dish feeding into the box, and although the box only requires two inputs there is a possibility that the engineer that fitted it "might" have installed a quad LNB (4 output) on the end of the dish arm, and if he did then a cable will require to be run from one of the spare outlets to the Freesat receiver.

There is no other way it can be done as you cannot split a satellite cable in the same way that you can with a normal aerial.
