No, you cannot use a satellite box to receive terrestrial programmes.

I don't want to use a satellite box I have a freeview box. I want to know if an existing dish for sky can be use with the freeview box.Can I use a cable splitter and run one end to the sky box the the other to a freeview box and get the freeview channels.

You cannot use a Freeview receiver with a satellite dish, only an aerial.

You also cannot split a satellite signal from a dish, if you want to run more than one box you must use a dual- or quad-LNB on the satellite dish and have a cable to each satellite receiver.

Tom.A difficult one for me to answer to,im not a proper professional myself just an amateur but if manufacturers created two aerial sockets at the back of everyones TV instead of one, then the simple answer would have been one aerial socket for your current sky-plus box and the second aerial socket to connect your Freeview HD with a terrestrial aerial. One other possibility i may suggest if this is feasible is some kind of aerial splitter of some sorts.
Im sure the true pros on here will offer possibly different but equally valuable advice to you,the more the better !

Jo, you cannot connect your Freeview TV to the Dish. You will require to have an aerial fitted to your property and this should be external rather than in the loft. Alternatively you could consider buying a Freesat receiver which can be connected to the existing dish and your TV. Probably a little more than having anearial fitted but less hassle for you.

P>S> Jo you can get a reasonably priced "Freesat" receiver on the High Street from Radio and TV outlets and the likes of Tesco Curry's and Comet. See on this site "Upgrading from Sky to Freesat"

Jo garner: In addition to Les Nicol's point, you can also get Freesat boxes from the supermarket - this one is £56 - Goodmans GFSAT200HD HD Freesat | Digital Switch Over | ASDA direct

We are in a similar position to Jo. We have freeview equipment and have just moved into a property which has a sky dish. There is also a roof aerial.
However, the aerial connector (the old coaxial type we assume is coming from the aerial) doesn't seem to be working - we get "no signal" messages when we connect up to it. (We've tested it with leads we know are good.) The connector does look somewhat tarnished as if it hasn't been used in a while - and it's also some way from where their TV was installed.
As well as that aerial lead, there are also twin sky cables (black with what I believe are F connectors), but no sky box.
Will both of these cables be coming from the dish, or could one of them be coming from the aerial?
We don't currently have the necessary adapters to connect to these, but am I right in assuming there is no point (if both are associated with the dish)?
We're just wondering if there's any way we can connect the TV without getting an engineer in to check/reconnect the aerial...

Jon: The two "F" connectors you see should be straight from the dish and can only be used for satellite reception and nothing else, this meaning either a Sky+ box or a twin tuner Freesat (PVR) recorder, if though an ordinary Freesat box was used then only one lead (any of the two) is required and so the second lead could be used for another Freesat box located elsewhere, with of course a suitable extension coax being arranged.

If you have a Freeview TV and nothing is received "on a rescan" using the aerial socket, then there really isn't anything you can do except to make some physical checks on the aerial / cable to.

Hi, ive recently lost my itv channels & e4 on sky. I dont pay for it so i guess its freesat.. Im thinking of buying a new tv with freeview built in but the sky man changed the aerial connector to the one thats like a nut & bolt so a normal aerial lead doesnt fit it. What will happen if i just plug the sky box into a freeview tv? Ive no idea where the aerial or dish is as i cant see them and im in a ground floor flat of a new build in wd6 4qh.
