Really helpful all this stuff about Sony and Freeview. Off to hassle Sony now. Nice to know we're not alone!

Russ Coxon: there is a temporary workaround. I have tried it on my Sony RDR-HWD890 and it works fine. The digital programme guide is not working but everything else seems OK. Let's hope Sony come up with a solution soon.

Same issues with RDR-HDX890 since 8.30pm last night - can't believe Sony haven't posted anything re the issue yet!! Already emailed Sony re issue as prob. so many. I did try tuning to the French channel but this didn't work for me.

Jane: I fail to understand why everyone seems to think that Sony for some reason or another is duty bound to work over weekends, especially as they are NOT associated with any form of emergency services likewise not involved in life or death situations, because in reality they are simply a manufacturer of a range of professional as well as domestic electronic equipment.

Anyone who thinks this somehow abnormal should try making a weekend communication with any of the other main manufacturers of domestic entertainment equipment and expect a reply, the results of almost guaranteed to be similar to that experienced from Sony.

guess I was lucky , my hxd870 lost all programs on the 19thjul , rescaning the tuner did not work but next day unpluged the box from the mains for a minute on pluging back in it started updating then back to normal although the colour for the graphics on the onscreen guide are in darker colours

Thanks everyone for a VERY helpful thread :-) My HXD890 lost signal Friday evening in Berkshire. Powered off/on and status went to 'UPLOAD'. My Mum 10 miles away reported the same thing yesterday. Only found time this morning to investigate, reset to factory defaults, retune etc, still no TV signal. Googled 'tv signal problems today' and found this great thread immediately. Je suis 'ave retuned mon google box to French and I've now have TV signal! Merci!

We too have the same problem in the wilds of Suffolk, first became aware at 7pm on Friday 19th. Ironically I was saying the day before that my Sony TV was struggling to hold signal for some channels in the high pressure, where as the HXD890 worked a treat. we take signal from the Tacolneston TX. Will get on to Sony right away (and call them tomorrow) and make a fuss.

It makes you think, I can now understand why governments are concerned about alleged "kill switches" in critical infrastructure.

I left the box in standby last night after retuning the EPG for the umpteenth time at 7.30am still no luck - however, just switched the box off and on again and the channels have now been restored. I can watch TV again & have access to the EPG programs - yippee!!

jb38: Re working weekends, I would expect such a large corporation to be aware of any scheduled updates which may potentially impact customers (and in this case clearly has) to have a team ready on standby to address any issues following a change which may potentially impact their customers. I do not expect normal circumstances people to work weekend only when there is any roll out of updates.
