Anonimouse: If your receiver only box is still located in the same position then swap the LNB port connection used by its single feed over to the LNB's spare port, if though after having done this the problem returns then remove the dish end "F" connector used by the single feed followed by unscrewing it from the coax for the purpose of checking internally for any signs of water, drying out with a tissue if necessary, then screw it back onto the coax again "after" having made sure that all strands of the braiding are pulled back over the coax's outer cover.

Needless to say, that if this action hasn't rectified the problem then this points to the box itself being faulty.

Strange thing is BBC1 was there this morning, wondering if it is weather/transmitter related

Anonimouse : Transmitter related problems do not exist where satellite reception is concerned as the programmes received are being radiated by a number of different "transponders" working individually from each other.

As far as weather is concerned, this can only affect reception of a satellite signal during such as an extremely heavy thundery type downpour and which "will" very occasionally block the microwave signal, snow having gathered on the bowl of the dish / surface of the LNB being another reason.

Well having done nothing today everything is working perfectly, so must be weather and/or transmitter related, radio reception was rubbish yesterday. Really annoying only having some channels on certain days.

The other really annoying thing about freesat, on my freeview box (humax). When I press back on the remote it takes me back to the previous channel I was watching, but freesat doesn't, why?

squidge: have tried a hu max HDR 1000 and 1010 over the weekend. Connected via HDMI to onkyo sr706 receiver. Same problem on both, can only get sound through the receiver on HD channels. If I crank up volume through hu max to max can just about hear something on SD channels. Doesn't make sense older Panasonic free sat HDR hasn't had any such issues. Tried optical and changed appropriate settings on amp input side still no joy, any suggestions greatly received

Kevin Halford: I can't shed any light on why the SD channels should be so low, but in order to get the thing working, my advice would be to use HDMI to the TV, and then take optical to the Onkyo.

Its usually seen as best practice to take all inputs into the TV, and then out, to avoid mismatched video/audio (although lots of people get away with it), but if you use optical from the TV, all the audio from the TV should come out through the receiver, which is better than nothing! I know its not HDMI, but it will ok until you sort it out.

It seems your not the first person to ask such a question (or something similar) Humax Freesat+ Audio through HDMI? | AVForums.com - UK Online

It could simply be the volume on the Humax box (the last thread had something about that). Let us know how you get on, because someone is bound to ask me this question!

Help. I've moved in to a new house, there's no conventional aerial, just a dish on the side of the house. Do I just get something like the Humax. and plug it in? Or is it more complicated than that?

Brennig: No, not really, but step back for a second.

Ask the people in the street what their Freeview signal is like (count the aerials is a good start) - Digital UK reckons your marginal, and Sutton Coldfields signal has some in the way very close to you (nice green hills by the look of it). Frankly, Digital UK reckons all the transmitters are a bit dodgy for you.

From previous posts, you seem to have a Humax Freeview recorder, which I'm sure you'd like to use. If the signal is doable, then at least ask someone to quote/inspect to see if you can get an aerial. Its shouldn't cost you anything to find out, and if you then spend £150 on a new aerial and continue to use your existing kit, then thats fine.

On the other hand, there might be a good reason why that dish is there! If the Freeview signal is rubbish, then that £150 is wasted. Firstly, check the dish, and the bit that sticks out of it - its called an LNB, and its the bit which sens the signal down the wire. There should be at least one hole in the bottom of it, or even easier, the wire/s should be in place. Count how many you have or can use. 1 is basic, 2 is good, and 4 is great.

For a satellite system, each wire allows you to watch and record, etc. Watch and record at the same time, you need two wires coming out of it, etc. Since the easiest way for you to use the dish is to get a Freesat equivalent of what you've got already, 2 wires is what your looking for. 4 would be even better. You can upgrade the LNB if you want, either by paying someone or doing it yourself. See Satcure for a huge amount of info, plus all the bits.

Have a look at your TV, it might have a satellite tuner built in as well, so you can at least watch.

Freesat is a small niche in the market, and PVR's are few in number and generally less choice. £150 will get you a Manhatten, and arounf £270 for a Humax.

At least look at the dish and ask those around - then you can decide what to do.

Hi Mike. Sorry if I've been unclear, what I am thinking of doing is getting the Humax Freesat box, not muck about with my existing Humax Freeview box.

And, the dish here is twin cable output.
