You need just TWO SCART leads:

- one from the SCART on the TV marked (1) or (RGB) connected to the Sky+ box's SCART labelled "TV"

- one from the SCART on the Sky+ box marked "VCR" to the first SCART connector on the DVD/VCR combo.

You can then view the stuff from the DVD by either pressing "PLAY" or putting the Sky+ box into Standby mode.

john: And just to add, that when you cancel your subscription you will still be able to view all of the programmes that you presently do except the ones dedicated to a Sky package, you can check on what these are by simply removing the card from the box, because any that are dedicated to a package will come up with a caption.

The only other thing that would happen when you cancel your subscription is, that if you are using a Sky+ box everything associated with the recording or playback will become inoperable.

Hello

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I have just been given a Ferguson HD Ready Digital LCD TV with an integral DVD player.

My parents who used it before me did not have SKY+ - we do.

I have connected the TV/DVD to our SKY+ box with a scart lead. The TV only has one scart socket. This works fine for sky and sky+ (although I can't tune the Sky remote to the TV for some reason). The original TV/DVD remote has a "source" button and I seem to need to change it from "Scart" to "DVD" to play a DVD - all fine. BUT

Problem 1: the TV/DVD remote control will work the TV volume but will not work the DVD. The DVD will work if I use the on device buttons. The batteries are fine.

Problem 2: I bought a universal remote to try and get the DVD working. I can now use the universal to do all the normal sky+ functions but it won't work the DVD. Also the universal does not have a "source" button so I'm having to use the origianl control to change the Source when I want to watch a DVD.

Can anyone think of why the integrated DVD will not work with the remote now that I've connect the SKY+ box via scart? Is it something to do with the fact that the signal is not now going direct into the TV? Have a got it on the wrong "source"?

Any help much appreciated.

How do I connect my new Toshiba vcr/dvd combi to Sky+hd box and my LG HD TV. TV and combi have 2 scarts & 1 HDMI but sky box has only 1 scart & 1 HDMI. I have a HDMI splitter but one connection loses the signal intermittently. I'm not sure which appliance to connect the splitter feed from

Cynthia: The answer is really dependant on what your intentions are as far as the VCR/DVD combo is concerned, insomuch are you intending to record Freeview programmes on it such as possibly viewed directly on the TV when not on Sky? and if you are then does the Toshiba have an inbuilt Freeview tuner?

The other question being if your HDMI splitter has either auto or manual switching between its inputs?

It would also have been of assistance if you had indicated the model number of the Toshiba and also anything seen printed on the HDMI splitter.

I have a TV with 2 scart sockets I also have a Sky box and a a Humax freeview box can I connect the scart lead from the sky box into one socket, and the scart lead from the Humax box into the other socket instead of having to keep changing the leads over each time

Ronald Catt: You really, really should not be taking the leads in and out! Nor should you have any need to.

If your TV has two scarts, then the simplest thing to do is to put one scart in one, one in the other, and use the remote to change from one to another. This might be (depending on the brand) be a small button with a rectangle/arrow icon on it. You need to read your manual to tell you how to do this.

To make matters slightly more compex, but in some ways better for you - is your TV HD Ready? If it has an HDMI port on it, check you Humax to see if it does not have the same. Humax have, for the past five years or so, had scart and HDMI on the back (and even put the HDMI cable in the box as well), and if so, use the HDMI, rather than the scart.

However, at the very least, fix it up in the way I outlined, and read you manual carefully.

If you are using the SCART sockets, they have the ability to 'auto-select' as pin 8 controls input selection. When one box is brought out of standby, pin 8 will rise to between 4.5 and 12 volts (see http://freespace.virgin.n…tm). That instructs the TV to select the SCART connected to that equipment and to set the display to suit the output from the box. (That's what the different voltages do.)
So, have a SCART lead connected from each box to a separate SCART socket on the TV. You should be able to use the auto-switching function (except with Sony TVs as they impliment the spec differently) If you don't get the auto-switching then use the button on your remote control to select between the external inputs.
If your equipment is true HD capable, then you should be using HDMI leads.

Hi,

I have just got a new Tv with one SCART socket. I have connected SKY+ box to TV with Scart, then connected DVD to sky+ box with scart (in Video scart). Put sky on standby and turned dvd on and cannot see the dvd player on tv. i have looked at settings etc and scart is ON in menu in Sky+.

Is there a setting I have missed somewhere? Can any one give me ideas on how to see the dvd player through Sky+ on the tv.

Darren: DVD players should be connected to the tv directly- your current setup won't work.

Your new tv will have generally 3 hdmi connections, plus a scart, plus rgb (model make would help) - the phono option vanished this year. If the DVD has hdmi, use that. If it does not, then use the rgb connection for picture and the RCA audio outputs for sound. You can get a kit for this to allow you to plug the scart on the DVD in on eBay etc.
however, much the easiest thing to do I'd to buy a new blu ray player - £60 would do you well, which will use hdmi instead, be smart, and play DVD/blu ray.
I always warn customers about connecting up lots of scart equipment to new tv's - they now regard hdmi as standard, with scart as a legacy connection.

Of course if you get sky hd you can use the scart!

Mike,

Thanks for the response. The TV is a Panasonic TXL39E6B. Just a bit confused as i keep reading the way I set it up should work and then you stated prob wont as DVD will need to be direct to TV.

Yes the RGB connection work as Wii is working fine. As Wii is in there is there another option i.e buy a scart extension block or something as really dont want to go down Blue ray direction yet.

I guess could get HDMI lead but need to check if sky+ or DVD will take it.
