DaveG : On reading over my previous reply, this copied and pasted from another screen, I have just noticed that I accidentally missed the latter section which contained a couple of questions, those being, (1) has your box always been kept powered up (albeit in standby) and connected into the dish?, (2) when you had previously downloaded the software into a USB key for transfer into the box was this done because you were experiencing problems or just because you realised that the software was out of date? because if the latter then any glitch whilst carrying out this process could, as you will most probably realise be responsible for your problems, this unfortunately being something which isn't rectifiable.

jb38 thanks for all your information in previous. The reason I did attempt to do the update was because of all the problems and I did obtain the most recent at the time and did try to get it to upload but it failed to find the USB stick so did not get any further although after that event I also found out the file required to be re named so I am certain it did not go any place.

jb38 sorry I did not fully answer all your previous. The box has not been powered all the time as it has been moved in the house and again for fitting the new twin cable from new LNB other than that it is on standby the remainder of the time as it does wake up at 4am and does a check for the new software which it has never found judging by your previous statement. thanks again for your help.

jb38 One more question if I may if I download the latest update software will it contain all previous update code or do I have to work my way forward from the very early version until I get to the latest. May seen a strange question but I have come across systems that only update modified code like a number of comp software companies.

DaveG: Apologies for the delay in replying but this was unavoidable due work related commitments.
Thanks for providing the info requested as this helps to clarify the issue with regards to why the boxes software is so far out of date, I am also inclined to agree that its unlikely that your failed attempt to update the software would have affected the box in any way, because if it had have done I doubt that you would have been able to do anything with it other than to switch it off and on, if even that!
However as far as the box not responding to the USB stick is concerned, this could well have been caused by something I admit to having been totally unaware of, insomuch that Humax HDR's can be critical to the type of USB stick used for transferring the updated software into it and with same failing to respond to certain types, this seen referred to at the latter end of the download instructions in the undermentioned link, and which also explains the reason for the various software updates that were sent out from time to time.
On the subject of your latter question, unfortunately I am unable to give you a positive answer on this and so its really a case of try it and see, because the aspect of updating software when numerous intermediate updates were missed is more allied to the computer field rather than my own of being connected with RF engineering.
By the way, ignore the link provided within the attached to the Humax software update site as its inoperative, use the one provided in my previous reply.

jb38: Possibly poor or no signal off 11428H 27500.
This is the Freesat Home transponder and carries Firmware updates and the Postcode Table.
Freesat Mode requires a Bouquet and Region to be set which are determined by the postcode.
"LBP TV" is a TV channel currently active on 11428H and can be used to verify the signal.

js : Yes, good idea! thanks for that input.
DaveG : As per advice from js go into the boxes Freesat tuning menu and select "manual tune", then when on transponder keep pressing the right hand side of the large button until 427 H 27500 2/3 is indicated then press search.
By the way when you first see 427H the signal / quality bar should indicate if anything is being received even before pressing search.

DaveG : In addition to that said, if when you select 427H no, or a low level of signal is being indicated then without touching anything else try swapping the two LNB inputs over just in case water has gained access into the "F" connector on the LNB used for the boxes LNB1 input.

jb38 Sorry this is long winded. The news is good so far I downloaded the latest Humax software and unzipped the file and loaded it on to the freshly formatted 1GB stick and had taken your advice and done some reading and followed the excellent and informative directions found on the KSL Technical web site item for the job. With every thing crossed I plugged in the stick and pressed the box standby switch and held it in while holding my breath all the time watching the TV screen and shore enough the upload started and completed it cycle in about 25 second after which at the 35 second mark I released the switch and let the box go through all its updating until it told me it had completed following this the system went straight in to the menu option for the Free-sat satellite routine which is for the first time displaying a signal strength and quality reading it remained in this routine for over 25 minutes at which time I aborted it and went to the manual tune option as I was more interested if it was going to find any channels which it did the same 111 TV and 25 Radio
I then went through the remaining menu options to ensure I still had a working box with at least as good a result than before the update. I eventually went back to the Free sat post code set-up as I had still got your test PE6 7XZ in the field so changed it to my own and sadly I still get the Invalid post code message but at least this time it actually spent some time checking in stead of just giving the message as soon as the button was pressed. Still only the one HD channel in the list found after the manual scan but I have to say I would say the quality of the TV picture on all channels is better than before the software update I don't know why it should be unless in the new software code it has been given more to work with to cope with the HD channels for now and the future ones due to come on line very soon. If any one has any idea how to sort the post code area problem and also any one who is using one of these Humax boxes how far in front of real time the EPG shows the program list I would be great full thanks again.

jb38 having seen the previous entry only after my loading of the new software I have now tried the test and had no signal off 11428H 27500 (as I do not see 11427H on the list) so I then changed over the two cables and did the test again with the same result so I guess that answers one of my problems.
