Linda: As you are located at just under 12 miles away from the Hannington transmitter and with a clear line-of-sight to the station (excluding man made structures / trees etc) then in theory anyway, you should be able to have good reception.
Have you as yet checked with anyone else residing nearby to determine if they are also experiencing similar problems on the same programme channels? although I fully appreciate that many prefer "not" to have to do this, in some cases with good reason! but its essential to know if the problem is only confined to your installation or not.
However if they aren't, then carry out a signal strength / quality level check on one of the problem channels, paying particular attention for any erratic variations being seen in the quality level of the signal.
Further advice dependant on reply.

stephen craig: NO Terrestrial aerials and cable are NOTHING to do with Sky whatsoever. Terrestrial aerials and cables receive Freeview TV channels from terrestrial landbased TV transmitters. Satellite cables and dishes receive Sky/Freesat channels and services from Astra 2 satellites @ 28.2degE and Eurobird1 @ 28.5degE.
Replace your terrestrial aerial with a new one and cabling pointed at your local tv transmitter for Freeview TV services.

Hi, Can I use a Sky + 250gb box without changing the existing dish which was fitted with my old digital sky box.
Many thanks, Dave.

The Sky+ box has 2 inputs so that it can record while you are viewing.
Do you have 2 leads from you existing LNB on your dish? If you do then it will work as expected but you will need a Sky+ subscription so that they enable the recording/playback section of the box. If you only have a single lead then connect that to the LNB1 input. You can then use the box either for Sky with a subscription but not for recording, or else for Freesat.

Is there anyone to whom I can take my many complaints to about the abysmal service Freeview has so far displayed, for that is more or less the only thing it has displayed. E.g. Leaving my TV box to 'series record', only to come back later to the 'NO SERVICE/NO SIGNAL' message on dozens and dozens of occasions?
Or is my only recourse, to withdraw permanently, the payment of my TV licence? (52.2852,-1.5201)

Chris Critchley: Briantist replied to you very first post last June by pointing out that 'The usual reason for wet weather degrading terrestrial viewing is that your aerial cables have perished and are letting in rainwater'. Seemingly you didn't check that out.
Since your just one km away from one transmitter, and not that far from Winter Hill, its evident that its your own aerial system at fault. The person you should complain to is you...

I have a Sky + box in the UK with the Entertainment package and paired card
In Spain in my holiday home I have a secondhand Sky + box with no card
When I go to Spain I take my UK card and it works fine in the Sky + box there. I can view and record all the Entertainment channels ITV, ch 4 etc.
My question is - If I left/lost my card in Spain and rang Sky for a replacement when back in the UK (paying the £10 fee) would both cards still work? This would save me having to remember to take the card back & forth

Chris Critchley: Sky will cancel the first card if they issue you with a new one.
You need to pay £10 *A MONTH* to have access to the PVR facilities alone - as a seperate subscription - it is not a one-off fee.
