Sharon: Sky's programme guide indicates that 138 is standard More4 (SD) and with More4 HD being on 236, if no signal is indicated on 138 then place your box in standby for about 30 seconds before disconnecting it from the mains power supply, then after a short pause (20 secs) reconnect it again and allow it to search for listings and which on completion should (hopefully!) have returned the missing programme channel.

If though your box is of the later issue Sky+HD types then use the undermentioned procedure.

1 : Press "Services" on your Sky remote and you'll see the "Options" menu highlighted.

2 : Press the right arrow to select "Settings" then press on.

3 : Press (in smooth succession) 0 - 1 - Select then you will see the set up screen.

4 : Press the right arrows to highlight "Install" which then changes to New Install when you do this - press "select".

5: Follow the instructions on your TV screen until you see the message "Installation Complete" is displayed then press "select".

jb38 Thanks for your latest advice, especially about the switch being live, I always swith off the circuits from my mains board to be safe. The light is a Flourescent tube. it is a Philips PL-Q 16 Watt Mini tube roughly 6-7 inches in a U shape which turns back in the centre in the shape of a square. I could not see anywhere to connect a suppressor.

Paul: Compact fluorescent tubes of the type mentioned do not use external starters, because if your light fitting uses a two pin tube then the starter is an integral part of the tube (square section in middle) whereas the 4 pin version is triggered via an external high frequency ballast unit

Needless to say, your particular light fitting only requires the spike suppressor to be fitted across the light switch, and which I will fully agree should be isolated from the mains prior to fitting the suppressor.

I am not receiving any signal from my sky dish. I have tried everything that I can to fix this and still having the same problem whether the weather good or bad.I have tried following various instructions from resetting to updating software. It's as though my dish just isn't picking up any signal what so ever.

neil larmour: Problems of the nature mentioned are usually always caused by one of two things, (1) a non-software related fault having occurred on the box and which in most cases is usually associated with its internal power supply, or (2) the dish having been moved out of alignment by such as strong winds etc.

Judging by what you have said with regards to already having tried a few procedures and with all of having resulted in failure, then your best policy by far is either try and test your box out on someone else's dish or alternatively their box on yours as this will then instantly reveal which one of the two reasons mentioned is responsible for your problem, as otherwise there really isn't any further procedures you can try.

By the way, if your box is a standard (non Sky+ type) you can still try it out on someone else's Sky+ installation, as the twin inputs from the dish used by Sky+ boxes are technically identical to each other.

My Sky+HD box decided to show no programmes at all the other day - just a blank screen. No amount of pressing buttons on the remote made any difference, though the light showed it was receiving the commands. I disconnected the mains supply for 1 minute and reconnected it, waited for the box to restart (takes around 2 minutes) and then pressed the button to turn it on. And we had all our pictures back! Have you tried anything like that?

Is it necessary in order to receive the new local TV stations available in city areas for the receiving aerial to be more directional in view of the lower power used and will reception be more vulnerable to high winds?

Nick Anderson: In answer to your first question, not necessarily! and in some cases could actually be detrimental as far as picture glitching is concerned, although dependent on where a person is located relative to that of the transmitter satisfactory reception might only be achieved with the addition of a booster being fitted in line with the aerial.

On the latter question, the wind has no effect whatsoever on reception except if its causing tree foliage and such likes to obstruct the signal path from the transmitter within the final 75 yards or so to where the receiving aerial is installed.
