You need just TWO SCART leads:

- one from the SCART on the TV marked (1) or (RGB) connected to the Sky+ box's SCART labelled "TV"

- one from the SCART on the Sky+ box marked "VCR" to the first SCART connector on the DVD/VCR combo.

You can then view the stuff from the DVD by either pressing "PLAY" or putting the Sky+ box into Standby mode.

Can anyone help? I have a sky + box and DVD with hard drive successfully all linked up. Now I want to add a VCR to edit some tapes. The TV and VCR only have two scarts although the TV does have a HDMI input. Many thanks

Jayne Every: If your Sky+ box is of the Sky+HD variety? then connect the box into your TV's HDMI input socket using an appropriate jumper lead. If though it isn't an HD box, then you should purchase a scart connector box such as the Bush 4 input / 1 output type with individual switching as seen on page 562 in the latest Argos book, item number 107/8701 @ £12.99.

It would of assistance to know the model number of the TV in question, also the model number of hard drive DVD recorder. The other aspect I was wondering about being the purpose of the DVD recorder? when the Sky box already has recording facilities, i.e: maybe not a Sky subscriber?

Jayne Every: You can edit the VHS tapes to the hard drive on the recorder (depending on the model), and then burn them to DVD. The recorder's manual should tell you how to set it up, but basically think of it as making a mix tape from records! Its how I did mine, but alternatively, get a USB video convertor for about fifteen quid and do it on your PC.

Since I have something similar to the scart switch box, I wouldn't bother, since the video is an extra - your just using it as a source until you've converted the tapes. If you have HDMI's on either the recorder or the VHS, use that - much better. As JB38 says - model numbers and makes would be a great help.

Leave the Sky box out of if as you can, unless your using it to transfer Sky recordings to disc.

I am having problems with my sky hd box and my dvd/hdd recorder.
I have sound and picture when I play dvd's, but when it comes to recording from the sky hd box to the HD on the recorder I have picture but no sound.
I've tried every thing possible. The annoying thing is it used to work fine but when we decorated we moved it all and now we have this problem.

j reed: I assume they are linked via a scart, and a classic problem with a scart is not all the pins engaging, so you get picture, not sound, etc. Try taking the scart out and then reseating it. If its not working any longer, try another - they are really cheap.

Paul Murphy: If your Tv has an HDMI port, use that! You cannot (in practical terms) have a HDMI to scart convertor. If you are short of HDMI ports, then you can get a 3-1 adapter, for less than 10.

What is the make model of the recorder and tv?
