I have split the signal from my satellite dish and now nothing works.
It is not possible to split the signal from a satellite dish.
If you want more than one signal from the dish, you must connect a quad-LNB and feed a signal from it to each dish

Hi, looking for advice please. I have a quad lmb at the moment. 2 feeds are for my reciever upstairs and the other 2 for downstairs. I have bought a second box for downstairs but the mrs wants to keep the original box as well( in same place on top of each other). What are my options? Have I got to change to an octo lmb or could I use some kind of splitter with 1 cable splitting into 2 for 1 box and another splitter for the old box(need 2 lines in each to record) Any advice would be appreciated.

Martin W: You cannot split or share an LNB output, as the box, whether Sky or Freesat, sends commands to the LNB every timer a channel is selected, said commands being in the form of a voltage /and or tone dependant on the programme channel selected, needless to say this cannot be shared between two devices, therefore an octo block has to be used, there is no exceptions to this.

Martin W: In theory Maplin will sell you a sort of splitter (high/low) thing, but even they say its better to fit extra LNB's. Either get an octo, or frankly (because it looks neater), is to just get another dish with a twin on it. Position it where its easiest to reach perhaps the upstair box and swap around the feeds. They are not that expensive, and either way, your going up a ladder.

MikeB (and MartinW):
Sadly your suggestion of a second dish is likely to contravene Planning Regulations as only a single dish is permitted if an aerial already exists on any building unless prior planning consent is sought and granted. Look at Planning Portal - Satellite,TV and Radio Antenna under Satellite dishes. Most Planning Authorities are seemingly reluctant to approve multiple dish installations.
The fitting of an octo LNB is by far the best solution and gives the neatest appearance.

Terry:
Recheck that ALL the connectors are fitted onto the ends of the coaxial cables properly. There must be NO connection between the inner core and the outer metal braid and/or sheath. If there is it will prevent your system working correctly and can possibly damage the STB.

Martin W: Martin ,when you are about to fit the new Octo LNB module be very careful not to move the dish "in any direction", even a degree will lose you many channels.
Also carefully remove the old Quad LNB .if its been in place for some time the screws will be corroded, spray WD40 on them the day before you intend to change the LNB.
Also take note of the orientation of the original LNB and make sure the new one is the same.
The only way to make sure you have the correct position of the new LNB is to purchase a setup meter about 10 on ebay or a bit more from Maplin .This connects in series with one of the rf cables at the point of the LNB socket. The simple signal meter is self powered from the SKY box and gives you a visual and audio level which changes as you rotate the LNB or move the dish.
You can easily check the dish position without touching its fixing screws just by "flexing" the dish on the top or side and see if you have the best signal.
One final point, make all new cable joints to the RF connectors at the LNB end, waterproof by sealing with "self amalgamating Tape" after they have been screwed tightI hope this helps

Hello,
I have Sky twin cable from the dish.
I want to move my telly to another part of the room but keep the original position also in case I change my mind and want it back where it was. I will not be using both at the same time. Just one or the other.
So why can't the cable be split for this?
Regards I.P.
