This transmitter has no current reported problems
The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Hannington (Hampshire, England) transmitter.UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Andy Fraser: Hi Andy, this is the only D2 map I've found http://tx.mb21.co.uk/maps…id=8

Jan Davies: Hi, Jan. Well done that girl! I was only using Mike Brown's tx site yesterday to find a list of Classic FM fm transmitters! Looks like Andy might be able to pick up something from Guildford or Toot Hill, which would be nearer for him than Wrotham! Richard, Norwich.

Thank you Richard and Jan. I'm starting to have a better understanding of D2 transmissions. As I get a strong signals on the other DAB groups, I assume that they must be coming from Basingstoke and/or Hungry Hill, whereas D2 stations are from Hannington or Guildford, so are much weaker due to the greater distance. A better aerial will be the answer.

Andy Fraser: Good Morning Andy. I'm glad you've had a chance to read Jan's and my posts. I was so glad that Jan found Mike Brown's map of D2 transmitters and was pleased that although Guildford might be weak for you that it is a possibility in addition to the also weak Hannington. If you don't have an external aerial instead of the inbuilt telescopic (pull-up) aerial I can make some recommendations if you're interested, You'll need to decide whether you wish to pull in signals FROM ALL DIRECTIONS or from a specific direction, e.g. Hannington OR Guildford - you can't have both without an aerial rotator and they are enormously expensive!!! Let me know what you reckon - omni-directional or directional. For your information, a directional aimed in a particular direction will do really well at picking up from a specific chosen transmitter, whereas an omni-directional will pick up from all around you, leaving your radio to decide what's best for it on the channel/multiplex you're tuned to.m Are you averse to putting an aerial up in the loft or on the house, or would you rather have one kicking around in the room where your radio listening is done? Maybe you need a 'radio shack' in the form of a garden shed?!!!

My need for Planet Rock does not justify spending any serious money on an aerial system. The one that came with the hi-fi is a wire dipole, so I'll just try repositioning it with a view to where the signal is likely to be coming from (ESE for Guildford, W for Hannington).
Thanks for your help.

Andy Fraser: Hi again, Andy. You don't have to spend SERIOUS MONEY to attach a better aerial to your hi-fi. Any proper DAB aerial will be superior to the wire dipole that came wit the hi-fi, because the hi-fi suppliers do not take account of individuals' radio listening preferences and the hi-fi wire dipole is not optimised for DAB! The following is 13.99 plus free delivery and can be fixed up INDOORS in the room in which you listen to the radio:
Mercury Outdoor DAB Radio Aerial Kit: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
You'd need to add the cost of a lead with appropriate F-connectors, for example from Screwfix for another 6.29 plus VAT:-
Satellite Lead F-Plug to F-Plug 10m | Fly Leads | Screwfix.com
So the whole job is done for around twenty quid! Hardly SERIOUS MONEY!!! Hope this helps, Richard, Norwich.

I wish it was just as simple as getting a cheap aerial for me:-( Am hoping they'll eventaully add D2 to Mendlesham because listening online is a complete faff and I've gone from 10 hrs a day, every day, to hardly bothering. I had to upgrade my broadband to get it and am certainly not spending any more money when I already did on DAB. I'm still desperately hoping Bauer will suddently see sense and bring it back to us!
On the other side ... I'm listening a lot more to my own music collection, much of which had been forgotten!

Jan Davies: Hi, Jan. I think it's very unfortunate for you that the nearest Sound Digital transmitter to you is Danbury Green (Bakers Lane) near Chelmsford. I wouldn't hold out much hope of picking it up from there where you are, even with an outside aerial. I think you've been doing the right thing by supporting the Planet Rock petition as well as your own lobbying of Bauer! You will, I suspect, probably have to wait a year or two until it is eventually decided to put the multiplex on to Mendlesham, Manningtree or Sudbury. I'd like to know why you think listening online is a faff. ~I just tried it from
www.planetrock.com/general/listening-online/
... and it was just one mouse click for the sound to come through my laptop's speakers. I can connect extension speakers or connect to my amp and hi-fi if I really wanted to, but i have a thing about listening 'via the 'airwaves' since I've been interested in 'proper radio' since the pirate stations of the 60s!!! Shows my age!!!
