Map of all DAB transmitters
You can click on a transmitter group symbol to see all the masts in that county or area, or click on a single transmitter to see the coverage area. Due to the large number of radio transmitters, many have been grouped into counties or administrative areas for ease of viewing.map is loading, please wait...

Richard Cooper: I've got some of the "Small scale DAB" sites listed on the DAB multiplexes page but there seems to be bugs in the system.
I'm just generating the coverage maps for SDL National at the moment.

Live in Great Yarmouth which uses the Oulton DAB transmitter. Since I got up today, my radios can only get the BBC stations, not Absolute etc

Phil: Hi, Phil. The reason you can't get the non-BBC stations is that one of the other multiplexes that carries them is down and the feeds from the broadcasters are not getting to the transmitters around Norfolk. Oulton is one of several transmitters in East Anglia that have been affected. The issue is being worked on as I write this to you. If you specifically wanted to listen to Absolute in Great Yarmouth, it is available on 1215 kilohhertz in the medium waveband on analogue non-digital A.M. radio. I just checked here in Norwich at ten to four, just now. You might need to turn up the treble control, because A.M. tends to have a poorer audio frequenc response than DAB. Another alternative available is to tune to channel 727 on your Freeview television. The sound on that is crisper than on an A.M. radio. Finally, there is the abosolute radio live stream online. Here is a link to it:-
Absolute Radio
Note that the company insits that you sign up before they make it available on your home computer.
Absolute is also on Tune-~In radio online, but for that you have to sign up to Tune-In radio. So many alternatives to absolute on DAB are availale. If you wanted a different station, come back with its name and I'll give you different ways of getting it! Hear from you again, Richard, Norwich.

Thanks Richard - if the Suffolk transmitter at Oulton in Suffolk is down, are there any other sites in Suffolk that might be working please?
Thank you.

John Hammond: Hi John. You probably didn't know that Beccles now has its own DAB relay on the water tower in South Road near John Leman. This only carries the BBC national stations at present. There is a powerful DAB transmitter at Mendlesham, South of Diss, which also contributes to the DAB signals received in Beccles. It carries BBC Nationals, Commercial Nationals and the Norfolk local stations. There are other transmitters in Sudbury, Bury, Woodbridge, Ipswich, Felixstowe & Blythburgh for example, but, of these only Blythburgh is likely to add to your Beccles DAB reception. Blythburgh carries BBC Nationals, Commercial Nationals but not the Norfolk locals. Hope these comments answer the question, " are there any other sites in Suffolk that might be working please? " A relay in Halesworth is due for completion by the end of October. I think that this will be BBC Nationals only - at least initially, anyway. All of the info. I've provided was already on this website I think and so it was just a case of browsing around this site to find it! Richard, Norwich (Norfolk!)

Richard: Hi Richard. You seem to have a choice between the Daventry transmitter, to your West-SouthWest or Sandy Heath in Bedfordshire to the East-South-East. Both cover Northants. If I were in your situation, I would experiment by trying each of these in turn and by seeing which of the two yielded more stations. Hope this helps, Richard, Norwich.

I'm looking at DAB transmitters (especially for Classic FM) covering South Shropshire (where reception is notoriously poor for anything!). I note there seems to be one or two sub-transmitters "coming soon"; how can I find out what when and what stations will be carried? At the moment I am getting a very weak signal from somewhere on an inappropriate roof top aerial so I am hoping to replace that and point the new one in the right direction but if there is going to be any new transmitters shortly , I might be wasting my time (& money). Any help much appreciated.

Terry Goodison: Hi, Terry. From my experience of researching DAB transmitters for Norfolk, I have found the following websites useful: Ofcom - especially the local DAB expansion plans pdf documents, BBC Phase 4 DAB expansion, the a516 digital website, the mb21 transmission gallery website by Mike Brown, getdigitalradio.com, ukdigitalradio.com, frequencyfinder.org.uk and, of course, local press that usually report on forthcoming improvements in DAB coverage. Hope these sources will be helpful to you. You'll need quite a few hours to trawl through all of these sources, however! Richard, Norwich.

Terry Goodison: Hi again, Terry. Using data gleaned from my post to you timed at 7 p.m. this evening, I have found out the following: current DAB transmitters for Ludlow district are: Clee Hill (BBC National DAB only), Ridge Hill in Herefordshire, which also carries the Digital One Multiplex including Classic FM (DAB) and Turners Hill (Sandwell district of West Mids) which carries BBC National DAB and Wolverhampton & Shropshire local DAB and NO D1, and probably out of your range in South Shrops, anyway.New Commercial DAB transmitters are proposed for Hazler Hill near Church Stretton and Rhosfach Farm (don't know where that is in Shropshire, I'm afraid), plus new BBC DAB transmitters at Bishop's Castle, Church Stretton, Clun & Ludlow. These are all due to be on air by the end of October this year, and so I hope they will help you to receive Classic FM on DAB in South Shropshire in the Autumn, Richard, Norwich.
