Brian Butterworth, the owner and 'webmaster' of this UKFREE.TV website, two weeks ago fixed the issue you reported concerning radio pages. Had you not noticed that this had been done? Richard, Norwich.

Tony: Hi again, Tony. It's not unusual for a transmitter site to be named after a nearby feature rather than being given the name of the feature or location exactly where it is situated. For example, the first 1000 ft mast in the UK is called 'Mendlesham', after the old Mendlesham airfield, when the mast is actually on the side of a main road in the village of Brockford Green. Similarly, the BBC used to call the Tacolneston transmitter the Norwich transmitter, although the Tacolneston site is 11 miles South West of this fine city. Richard, Norwich.

Steve: Hi Steve. Are you referring to reception of analogue radio on FM in your van rather than digital DAB Radio? We need to know which in order to help you, but if it is FM you're talking about, it sounds as if your radio is trying to seek for the nearest FM transmitter for the station you had programmed into the No. 1 preset using its RDS auto-seek feature: I'm not sure whether an in-vehicle DAB radio would do a similar thing or not when you are using DAB as opposed to FM, but I should think that DAB radios should try to 'hold on to' the station you were listening to as well, because the station ( if a national station), should be on the national single frequency networks on DAB and use whichever transmitters in your vicinity that the electronics in the radio dictates. Come back and tell us whether you're trying to listen on FM or DAB, and which station it is that you're trying to listen to, and then we can see if we can help. Richard, Norwich.

Louise Tully: Hi, Louise. Firstly, whatever they do at the Mendip transmitter cannot affect messages such as the 'loading application' message popping up on your JVC tv set. In order to offer you some more help, we need to know the date of purchase of the set, along with its model name and model number. Once we have this information, we can research your particular JVC tv set and hopefully give you some further guidance. The model number is imperative if we are to assist you. If you don't have the instruction booklet, look on the back of the set. Hoping to hear from you again within the next few minutes, Richard in Norwich.

Edwin: Hi, Edwin. The a516digital website says, " Absolute Radio has confirmed that its 1960s music station Absolute 60s is to be withdrawn from five local DAB multiplexes starting from Tuesday 23rd April. Sister station Absolute Classic Rock is also being withdrawn." These are cutbacks that the Absolute Radio company has decided that it needed to make. I also found the following on radionow.co.uk, which would suggest that Hull listeners sshould have done a retune on their DAB radios before the end of last month, "Tuesday, 23rd August 2016
Get ready to retune for Viking FM, BBC Radio Humberside as part of digital radio channel switch: Gold, Absolute Radio 90s, Kiss Fresh and other local DAB digital radio stations are on the move in North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Kingston upon Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire.
Digital radio listeners will need to retune their DAB digital radios on the evening of 31st August 2016 to keep hearing the bundle of local radio stations for Humberside. These include Absolute Classic Rock, Absolute Radio 90s, BBC Radio Humberside, Capital, Gold, Kiss Fresh, Smooth, Viking FM, Viking 2 and Viking 3."
As far as Planet Rock is concerned, this station came off the wholly national Digital One multiplex back in March of this year and moved on to the Sound digital multiplex which is not allowed to have transmitters on the East coast of England due to the fact that they would interfere with stations across the North Sea in Europe. I hope this post answers your queries, but to get some of your stations back you definitely need to carry out a retune on your DAB radios. Richard, Norwich.

Zara Maryam: Hi, Zara. You need to get your television from a satellite dish rather than an aerial to be able to receive the Islam channel, which isn't on Freeview, but IS on 'Freesat'. On Freesat, it is on channel 693. For Freesat tv you need a satellite dish on the side of your house, a satellite cable from the dish to the tv and the tv needs to be on which can accept satellite tv signals such as the Panasonic Viera. My friend set all of his up for himself, but, of course, needed a ladder and a masonry drill to get the cable through the sitting room wall. The hardest part of the job was aligning the satellite dish but can be done wit the aid of a satellite 'signal finder' which only costs a few pounds. The Islam tv channel is also on Sky, channel 806, so if you have Sky you don't need to worry about getting a Freesat installation. Hope this helps, Richard in Norwich.

barry swain : Hi, Barry. I'm afraid we can't tell you the reason for your not being able to update your box unless you can tell us the make and model of your box and preferably the date you purchased it - the nearest year would probably do for that. Reply back with this information and then one of us should be able to help you. Richard, Norwich.

Tiddler: Heart Radio's Summer Songs was only available on Monday 31st August 2016. Today is Saturday 3rd September and so it is not summer any longer, but it is Autumn. Heart radio is available on all local DAB transmitters (not transponders, because transponders are used for satellite transmissions, not terrestrial transmissions). Heart Extra is available on any DAB transmitter which transmits the commercial Digital One (D1) multiplex. If you tell us your approximate postcode area, post-town letters plus the next couple of numbers, we would be able to tell you your nearest digital radio transmitters. Richard, Norwich.

J Hassan: Good afternoon, J Hassan and sorry for not dealing wit your query yesterday. Unfortunately, without knowing the district in which you live, we cannot assist you with transmitter information. Please reply back with the name of the district of your town or city, or the name of your village, and then we can help. Richard, Norwich.

L J Noyes: Good Morning, L J Noyes. As has been explained by other contributors to this site, transmitters do not go 'off air' during the early hours of the morning when tv programmes are still being broadcast, which would suggest that you are not setting up your recorder to record the entirety of the programmes you wish to record. Some recorders give you the option to record parts of programmes, such as the first hour, for example. I would check the settings before you next wish to record a programme and ensure that you set up the recorder for recording the whole programme, rather than just the first hour or so. I hope this helps, Richard, Norwich.
