I will see if I can get someone to call up BBC Engineering for me, alternatively I have found a BBC form at Tell the BBC | Help receiving TV and radio I can use to report this.
I watched the signal quality screen for a while and it did not dip below 100% at any point for frequency 47. Strength was at 48-50%.

I'm pretty sure it's a transmitter fault now, I went to my parent's property in Hailsham yesterday morning (they're 10 miles away from me and they're situated much closer to the transmitter), I experienced the same subtitle issue when I watched BBC One HD.
I will make a phone video recording of this issue as well as explaining this is occurring in more than 1 property, miles apart, on the BBC form tonight. That should be more than enough information for them to investigate I hope. Thank you for your assistance Chris

Got a response today:
"We apologise for the delay in getting back to you whilst our engineers were trying to investigate what has been happening.
We have heard back from them today and they said:-
"The cause was a failure in a piece of equipment which was fixed on 21st August. We're working with the supplier to see what we can do to stop it happening again."
We hope the issue is now resolved and thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please do let us know if it happens again."
Apparently it was fixed on 21st august, I think I've been on iPlayer mostly in the past week so will need to recheck.

This appears to be fixed now (since 31st August) having watched about 3 hours worth of programmes this week.
It's a bit frustrating I was the only one to kick up a fuss about this though :(

Hi, is anyone else having issues with subtitles on BBC HD channels? I can't find anything on twitter about it so wondered if it was a local transmitter issue.
What happens is two or three subtitle lines in a row don't show up and this occurs approx. every few minutes (sometimes it can be 20 minutes before it occurs again). I have already excluded this being an equipment issue as subtitles still go missing when I plug the aerial directly to the TV instead of my humax freeview recorder. ITV HD, Channel 4 HD and Channel 5 HD are fine.
The issue has been ongoing for two months now on pre-recorded programmes or movies. I can't comment for programmes such as the News or any other live programmes as subtitling is delayed, so it's hard to tell if some lines are missing (I'm deaf).
