martin: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you should have good reception on all muxes from Oxford aerial pointing W-WNW set for horizontal polarisation, or as John suggested above try Sandy Heath, aerial pointing NE, also horizontal polarisation. Note that the COM muxes from Oxford are transmitted at reduced power until 18th April 2012, SDN from Sandy Heath will change frequency and increase power on 9th May 2012.

James: The SDN mux which is currently on C31 at 20kW will change frequency to C51 (8k mode) and increase power on 9th May 2012. Additionally Mux D3+4 and Mux HD will transfer to the main antenna on 27th June 2011. Although currently at full power the antenna currently in use does restrict the coverage slightly. If you are having reception problems with the COM muxes it could be that a group "A" aerial is in use. In such cases installation of a replacement or additional aerial will be required to cover the frequencies used by the COM muxes. Also check that Sandy Heath frequencies have been tuned in as it is possible that Tacolneston signals arriving from behind the aerial could also be found when scanning for channels.

Hannington (Hampshire, England) transmitter
Monday 28 November 2011 10:33AM

bryan wade: I don't know why Digital UK would have told you that as if you are able to receive Midhurst you will have the correct region anyway. It is true that currently Hannington does give all six muxes, albeit with variable reception on four of them, but after switchover it is predicted to give only the PSB muxes. After switchover Midhurst is not brilliant, prediction is for good reception on Mux BBCA and variable on the rest. Rowridge incidentally is predicted to give good reception on all muxes both now and after DSO, but that prediction could change if you insert your house number into the table for a more precise assessment - try for yourself by clicking on the link to Digital UK tradeview and altering the address.

Pauline: Do a factory reset to clear the channel list, then start a channel scan with the aerial unplugged. When the scan reaches C47 plug the aerial back in. The scan will then continue over the frequencies used by the Malvern transmitter. This will make sure that you are not storing channels from weak unusable transmissions, it is likely that you can receive Bromsgrove signals, with Sutton Coldfield and Ridge Hill also possible when using a suitable aerial. If your analogue reception was good before switchover you should now have good digital reception.

Ian: There are no plans to include transmission of the COM muxes on local relay transmitters. To do so would more than double the cost of transmitting these muxes and given the small number of extra viewers served the mux owners do not consider that to be cost effective.

david marasco: There is no prediction from Digital UK for reception from Mynydd Machen. You are however predicted to have excellent reception from Mendip and Wenvoe is also shown as a likely possibility. For Mendip mount the aerial for horizontal polarisation and point it at 144 degrees (SE), For Wenvoe the polarisation is also horizontal, the direction being 234 degrees or roughly SW. Note that predicted reception does not take into account local obstructions such as trees or tall buildings.

Sky News

T Gillmore: Can you supply more information such as your postcode or which transmitter you are using? The frequency of the mux which carries Sky News was changed and power increased at both Sandy Heath and Tacolneston last week.

Iain: Digital UK have revised their predictions. They have included data to take account of frequency changes at various sites to clear C61/C62 and also appear to have changed predicted reception data for 2012 to 2014. For your postcode Sutton Coldfield now shows no deterioration from the present time which is for 99% chance of having reliable reception for 99% of the time on the PSB muxes and 90% chance of reliable reception for the COM muxes. Winter Hill is not so good with only Mux BBCB and ArqB currently having a better than 70% chance of reliable reception, in 2013 Mux BBCA changes frequency to C50 and becomes 79% and ArqA changes to C49 with a 74% chance of reliable reception. The other muxes remain arround 60% chance of reliable reception. This is of course always subject to there being no local obstructions in the signal path. If your aerial is set for vertical polarisation and pointing to the Leek relay you will only receive the PSB muxes, however if it is pointing to Sutton Coldfield (rods horizontal) but does not currently receive the COM muxes it might need repositioning to null out possible interference from Moel-Y-Parc.
