J. Mooney: 2km from a transmitter and you have a signal booster? Can I ask why?

NICK ADSL UK: My Samsung has an option in the menus to adjust the sound for the SD or HD codecs, I equalised them so that problem goes away.

Michael: I'm sure if the were no radio stations from a transmitter such as Durris we'd have heard about it by now - so it's likely to be a problem at your end. Do you have any channels in the 700s? Maybe a separate button or mode for radio?

Una: That would probably be the free analogue Virgin Media cable service that was switched off. I think your options now are to either: pay Virgin media for the upgraded, normal service; install Freesat or use an aerial to receive Freeview.

If you are living in flats or similar then there may be a communal aerial that comes into the property (maybe ask the neighbours?); if not then you would need to get an aerial installed. It will probably need to be a rooftop aerial as an indoor aerial will be no use so far from the Sandy Heath transmitter.

If you provide your postcode we can check the predicted coverage in your area.

Ruth: You receive all the channels you will ever likely get from the Glenluce transmitter - the commercial channels are not obliged to broadcast from all of the transmitters, unlike the public service channels. If you want more channels, get Freesat.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter
Wednesday 4 December 2013 2:38PM

Chris: First things first, let's clear up whether 4G could be the cause - phone at800 and they will tell you whether there is a mast active in your area, and when it was switched on - I'm guessing that since it's been ongoing for 6 months it won't be a 4G problem, as Vodaphone's 4G at 800MHz only came on during the summer.

I'm presuming you have a Samsung TV - can you go into menu > channels > manual tuning and then tell us whether the 6 stored frequencies match up with the 6 Emley Moor frequencies at the top of the page?

Could you also bring up the signal information screen for channels 1, 3, 10, 11 and 18, and tell us what their strength/error level is?

Dave: Perhaps you are unaware, but the "kids tv" is being broadcast in the time that the BBC's "grown-up" channels are not, BBC 3 and 4 are broadcast from 1900 to 0400, so you have 15 hours of spare HD capacity lying about - why not use it for CBBC?

And Rowridge will come online early next year, apparently.

UKTV's Drama to be on Freeview 20 | Freeview news
Wednesday 4 December 2013 10:58PM

Pete: Do an auto tune or first time installation with the aerial out of the back of the TV or box. Plug the aerial back in and check to ensure no channels are stored, then manually tune in just UHF channel 58 - then go back and check to see if Drama is working ok. Continue on with 50 59 49 and 55.
