Roy Cliff:

It is in fact due to a power outage.
Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks are reporting they hope it may be fixed by 22:00 30/11/2021 but you'd need to check with them for updates. Transmitter postcode is AB54 4RQ

Statement from BBC Engineering -
27 November 2021

High winds and rain are causing problems with electricity supplies to several transmitters across the UK. Regional electricity suppliers are working hard to restore services. You can check the status of your local transmitter using our transmitter checker tool.

While you're waiting you could try BBC iPlayer or BBC Sounds to carry on watching or listening to your favourite programmes. They are both available on Smart televisions and many other internet connected devices.

Geraint Hopkins:

The BBC had reported a fault -
Whilst the BBC have reported fault details on their individual transmitter page, they have not (yet?) added it to a page which is an engineering list of Freeview faults which is where the updates to this site come from.

From 1:02:14am to 2:24:23pm on 27th Nov 2021 BBC A / BBCB HD Off the air due to a fault.

There is another very low power relay transmitter close by (which you are predicted to get poor signals from) which you may be receiving off the back of your aerial if you initially retuned when you had no signal. It's never advised to retune when you have no signal if you were correctly tuned to start with.

The fault was most likely due to a power outage, which if I've understood the BBC site and Western Power Distribution sites correctly, power should be restored.

If your signals are not back to normal and you previously retuned, try a further retune.

Stan Russell:

5 Select is a Channel 5 sister channel. This is not their website and they are very unlikely to see your comment here (never mind do anything about it!).

You'd be best contacting Channel 5 about how to get/see copies of the programme.

Tom Baker:

I can't find any current fault reports, but then those for commercial multiplexes are almost impossible to find.
Is the problem still continuing?

There doesn't yet appear to be any further BBC updates, the problem may have been fixed by the time I post this!

Are you having any problems with other BBC SD channels? (eg. BBC2, BBC News?)

Michael Arnold:

If you unfortunate enough to be in a location where your aerial has to point roughly SE to get the Chesterfield transmitter (or that being within the beamwidth of the aerial) then there's the possibility this might be an issue.
That said, Waltham is getting on for 70km away and is horizontally polarised, whereas Chesterfield is vertically polarised.
Depending on how far away from the Chesterfield transmitter you are, and your predicted reception, a good aerial installation should avoid these issues except in extreme circumstances. We'd need a full postcode to look at predicted reception in your locale.
An experienced (even CAI approved) installer would know how best to achieve this with careful choice of aerial and siting. In a worst case it may even be best to consider stacking two aerials, but that is getting to an extreme.
