All free TV channels in the UK

New Tricks is currently screened on the Drama channel, LCN20 in the EPG. Each episode usually seems to have an hour and 10 minute slot. Did the episode (including ads) not last that long?

Heathfield (East Sussex, England) transmitter

Aaron:

I'm currently watching Bates Motel on BBC One HD and don't seem to be experiencing any issue at the moment. It could be a local transmitter issue, I'd think the best way to get some help if it's only BBC HD channels is to get someone to contact BBC Engineering on your behalf on 03700 100123. They say they aren't answering calls at present but will call back, so a message explaining your problem and being deaf along with a phone number so they can speak to someone. They may be able to provide an email address for you to contact them further.

The thought did occur to me as to whether it may be a signal issue. Have a look in your TV Tuning section for the Signal Strength and Quality for the UHF channel that has your HD channels. The Quality should be 100%.

If your aerial is pointing pretty much Due E then yes it will be.

Even though your aerial is pointing the wrong way, you might be able to get some signal off the Whitaside Light Relay transmitter (PSB multiplexes only) which is a relay of Pontop Pike, so should be working (2km from you).
It's UHF channels are C37, C47, C48 for PSBs 1,2, & 3, if you could manual tune that would be the best option BUT retuning will lose the correct Bilsdale tuning so you'll have to retune again to get Bilsdale back WHEN it's working but it's likely to be a limited service initially when it is and it's some distance from you (56km).

Bilsdale's UHF channels are at the very top of this page except PSBs 1 & 3 are interchanged. The 13 Nov 2019 list lower down is NOT up-to-date.

Note to other readers - which other transmitters you might be able to get (if any) will depend upon location. Consider on-line or Freesat if you are stuck.

Heathfield (East Sussex, England) transmitter

Aaron:

No, it wasn't Heathfield. If it's persisting, does this occur at all times of day, or just during specific periods? Have you changed anything electrical or had any electrical problems when this started two months ago? Anything external that you may have noticed - a faulty street light for example that's coming on and going off when it shouldn't, or come to that anything of yours?

Whilst 48-50% should not be a problem, it might mean any electrical interference could more readily affect you. If you provide a full postcode, we can look at the predicted reception for your locale.

Try that BBC form as well and see what response you get.

Also, if you read our posts over several pages on the Bilsdale transmitter page and follow various links that have been posted, you'll get more up-to-date information as it's made available.

Probably best if you read a number of our previous posts on the previous pages where explanations of some of the things going on are mentioned, along with links to places where updated information is most likely to appear first.

Craig Nelson:

Both Freeview and previously the BBC have posted warnings about the curent high pressure weather system causing some disruption to reception in various parts of the country but especially the south. These conditions sometimes cause Tropospheric Ducting which causes TV signals to travel (a lot) further resulting in interference from other transmitters in the UK or Europe (it was called continental interference in the old days).
This situation may continue for several days, at any instant in can last for seconds, sometimes minutes, even hours, it's not exactly predictable. It's also frequency dependent so may not affect all multiplexes at the same time.

The conditions may persist for several days I'm afraid, there is nothing that can be done about the weather, do NOT retune whilst the problem exists as invariably it often clears the correct tuning and may leave you with signal from the wrong transmitter which results in no signal as conditions change.

It seems we were both drafting replies at the same time. Electrical interference could also be a possibility if it's occurring at the same time on a regular basis.
