Simon Deacon:

Sorry, I had intended to mention that you may have to wait a minute or two before your post will appear on this site, and similarly if you get a "fatal error" message on posting, which generally can be ignored.
The site owner has not been able to fix (yet?) the issues causing this problem.

John Foster :

Please provide a full postcode so we can check your predicted reception.
When did this problem start? Have you changed/moved anything/any equipment etc?

I can't find any current faults listed for the Redruth transmitter nor any in the last 5 days, and the transmitter isn't currently listed for Planned Engineering.

When you say you checked aerial and amplifier connections, have you checked that the aerial is still intact and pointing in the correct direction with its rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal?

Have you noticed any work taking place on any mobile phone masts near you? or have you received a postcard from restoretv.uk ?

Rowridge (Isle Of Wight, England) transmitter
Thursday 1 December 2022 3:22AM

Ian Roome:

Without a full postcode it's impossible to say if there are particular issues affecting reception in your specific area, however I can find no faults listed for the Rowridge transmitter (neither vertical or horizontal polarisationa) and it's not currently listed for Planned Engineering. As far as i can deduce, the transmitter is functioning normally.

Is your aerial vertical or horizontal? Is the downlead secure and not flapping in the wind?
Have you changed/moved any equipment when this started/
There is the possibility that it's current weather conditions causing some "Tropospheric Ducting" resulting in Interference coming from distant transmitters (in Europe or the UK) which is currently affecting some parts of the south and southwest. Do not retune if you have no signal or badly pixellated pictures as this generally just clears the correct tuning!

If you have already retuned, then you'll have to repeat it when signals are normal - as you won't know when that might be, you may have to try several times!

Miles Thompson:

Nothing has changed at the transmitter and I can't find any faults currently reported or any in the last 5 days nor is the transmitter listed for Planned Engineering.

The North Bovey transmitter is a very low powered relay and it's possible that your location may give marginal reception.

If you provide a full postcode we can look at your predicted reception and which way the aerial should point.
If you are receiving from this transmitter, the aerial rods (or squashed Xs) should be vertical.

When was the last time you retuned? Has anything changed in your installation since then? Have you had a new aerial etc since June 2019 when the 700MHz Clearance was completed?

Your problems with reception of the BBCA/PSB1 multiplex (SD channels) yesterday is most likely due to current weather conditions causing some "Tropospheric Ducting" resulting in Interference coming from distant transmitters (in Europe or the UK) which is currently affecting some parts of the south and southwest.

Caution: It's never advised to retune if you have no signal or badly pixellated pictures as this generally just clears the correct tuning! Wait until signals are normal. Retuning will not affect reception is you are already correctly tuned!

John Balchin:

The transmitter isn't currently listed for Planned Engineering, nor has it been recently and there don't appear to be any faults listed. As far as I can tell it's operating normally.

As you haven't given a full postcode, I can't check your normal predicted reception which may be marginal in your location under adverse weather conditions, also depending on aerial location.

Your problems with reception are most likely due to current weather conditions causing some "Tropospheric Ducting" resulting in Interference coming from distant transmitters (in Europe or the UK) which is currently affecting some parts of the south and southwest.

David:

Quest has not been removed and is still broadcasting.
It is never advised to retune if you were correctly tuned and having reception difficulties. Retuning will never fix a reception problem. If you retune when you have no signal or pixelllated pictures it usually just clears your correct tuning. You will no doubt find that you are also missing other channels on the same multiplex (SDN/COM4).

Your problems with reception were most likely due to current weather conditions causing some "Tropospheric Ducting" resulting in Interference coming from distant transmitters (in Europe or the UK) which is currently affecting some parts of the west of the UK.

You will need to retune again when your signals are normal. As you don't know when that will be, you may have to try several times.
