You haven't said which channels you are having breakup on!
Whilst it's not listed for Planned Engineering, we know the lists aren't always 100% however nothing has changed over the Christmas period which might simply mean no-one is there actually doing anything but I'm not convinced that it's necessarily running as normal!
Whilst I'm not getting any pixellation, I'm not getting my usual signal strengths on PSB1, ArqA and SDN.
I'm not sure if that's due to reduced power, reserve antenna, or something else!
I am however getting 100% Quality on all of them!

Are you sure it was a 700MHz filter that you had from Restore TV? Your postcode gave a Yes on the check and even if it's a 700MHz filter in the amp/splitter, if the mobile mast signal is strong enough it can still give a problem especially with a wideband aerial. If it was the 800MHZ LTE filter, you do need the 700MHZ one.

Did the "aerial man" have a spectrum analyser and check for interference?
Put your parents' postcode in here https://restoretv.uk/post…ure/
If it says yes, they need to get in touch with Restore TV for a Free Filter, call 0808-1313-800
IF they have a masthead amp outside on the pole, then tell Restore TV because they will need to send an engineer Free of Charge to fit a external Waterproof filter.
All filters need to be fitted before any amp.

Without a full postcode it's difficult to be precise, and the reception checkers are not currently giving results for DAB on the new mast as DAB is not operating yet on it.
Are you receiving multiplexes 11B and 10C ok? - BBC Tees and BBC Radio York - they come from a local mast..
You should get a good enough signal for the BBC National multiplex 12B from Pontop Pike roughly to your NNW or several masts including Emley Moor roughly to your SSW to S.
make sure you don't have any major obstructions on those directions - thick walls, metal objects like fridge/freezers etc.

Certainly worth trying. I supposedly had a postcard ages ago, but never had any issues, so I'm waiting to see what's going on at Mendip.

Quote "This time of year I can discount tropo."
I'm afraid you can't. Whilst there doesn't appear to be any right now, we had some around the 15th--18th December. There was a bit about at the end of October but some that was more significant during the first full week of September, those being some that I remember.
That said, they were all pretty insignificant compared to Christmas 2019 to New Year (2020) where we had extremely severe tropo for most of that time, people were blaming faulty transmitters etc etc. Never known anything like that previously for the time of year!
Heathfield uses C37, I wonder if CCI from there is what's happening periodically!

Discussion around this issue and about aerials etc. has been going on for some while now that I couldn't remember if we'd checked that interference from a new/upgraded mobile mast now using 700MHz was a possibility.
Had a check back and see that we only gave it passing mention.
Putting your postcode into https://restoretv.uk/post…ure/ comes up with a YES !
So you need to get in touch with Restore TV 0808-1313-800 and request a free filter. These are 700MHz (often commonly called 5G) Filters. Not the 800MHz 4G LTE ones that were given out when 800MHz clearance took place.
If you are using a masthead amp you need to request the external waterproof one as any filtering needs to be before any amp.
If you currently have a 800MHz filter you won't need it if using the 700MHz one as that will also clobber 800MHz.

Thanks for the correction, I really don't know where I got that from !!!
Oh well, it was purely a speculative idea anyway :o

Thanks for posting back. As Steve says it gives us a better understanding of the way channels can be affected which at the outset isn't quite what we might have expected, but I'm noticing similar situations with others.

Well good luck with that then, yes the amp could be doing silly things like oscillating.
I hope he's got a spectrum analyser.
