In addition to the information provided by Steve, and despite your distance from Mendip, your are predicted to be able to receive the Local Multiplex from Mendip which is on UHF channel C30.

In addition to the information from Steve, these days it is better that people use a Group K aerial.
This is effectively the new "wideband" for Freeview as it covers UHF channels 21-48 which are now the only ones in use in the UK. It also blocks the 700 & 800 MHz channels above 48 which helps eliminate potential interference from new/upgraded phone masts which will in many cases then not need a filter.
Group K Log periodics are available from some manufactures and a Group K Yagi from many.

The site doesn't have "misleading" information about engineering, it is normally posted on the relevant transmitter page by an automated scan of the Freeview information - even that information can be inaccurate on a number of occasions as we've found many times.
(The "map" of so say "live" faults and engineering doesn't appear to be maintained these days - I've deduced that being due to OS updates affecting the way the site owner's software works and he's not had time to rectify it).
The Text version is more reliable but only lists those where BBC services are affected. Trying to get fault information about Commercial services is like trying to get blood out of a stone - wherever you look!
The Postcode searches give the predicted reception taking account of the geography but obviously apply when the transmitter is operating normally not when there is engineering work when it may be running on the Reserve Antenna (lower on the mast) or on Reduced power. It however can't take note of very very local obstructions on the line-of-site like a tall building across the road from someone!

Oh dear. I'm afraid it's not our usual advise to suggest retuning IF your were correctly tuned and then have pixellated pictures or no signal. You cannot tune to signals that aren't there or can't be decoded. The usual result is to clear the correct tuning.
IF your aerial is Horizontally polarised and pointing at Crystal Palace then do check in your tuning section that you are tuned to its UHF channels as listed by Steve in his post. If you are incorrectly tuned to even Hemel Hempstead's UHF channels, reception will most likely be unreliable with the wrong polarisation of the aerial.
Where people can get signals from more than one transmitter and have become incorrectly tuned, the best cure is to clear the existing tuning (auto retune with the aerial unplugged) then MANUAL retune of the wanted UHF channels only (not automated retuning).
If you choose to change to reception from Hemel Hempstead then you'll need to change the polarisation of your aerial first (rotate it until the rods are vertical) and swing it so that it's pointing virtually SSE (compass bearing 155 degrees).

If you have no ITV3 or 4 then in theory you won't have ITV1 and ITV2 UNLESS you went and retuned when you had No Signal or badly pixellated pictures. DON'T. You cannot tune to signals that aren't there or can't be decoded. The usual result is to clear your correct tuning.
As you can see from the previous replies, Kendal had a reported fault. In addition to which, although it is line fed, it's part of the Caldbeck transmitter group and Caldbeck is listed for Planned Engineering, so this could be related to the issue that occured.
I suggest you check you are correctly tuned to Kendal's UHF channels for its 3 multiplexes - which are C39, C42 & C45 in the order PSB1/2/3. (not those listed on this page which is obviously out of date). If not, MANUALLY retune those with missing channels until all have returned. Also check none of them are in the LCNs 800+, if so you may have to clear all your tuning and start again.

Hope you did not retune whilst you had no signal, you cannot tune to signals that aren't there or can't be decoded. The usual result is to clear your correct tuning.
You then need to retune again when signals are normal.

There could be all sorts of reasons Max, not just a weak signal but maybe interference. We really need a full postcode to give any constructive comment or advise. We've no idea which transmitter you are predicted to get or how reliable the signal may be.
