tony I assume that your dvd player is a Recorder
Connect the av1 of the dvd player to the vcr input of the sky box
The sky box from the TV scart to the tv (im assuming its not a HD sky Box) - if so then use the HDMi output to the tv
By selecting AV1 on the DVD recorder you should be able to record whatever is on the sky box at the time of recording
If you change the channel on the sky box whilst recording then the dvd will record whatever you change it too
You cant watch and record 2 different things
If you want ot do this and the input from the dish has 2 connectors (for sky plus or SKY Hd then you could go buy a cheap freesat box for £30 from Argos you could then use the sky box for recording and the freesat for viewing
--- you would use one cable from the dish to each of the sky/freesat boxes

Jackie - need a post code to get a prediction
We need to know where you live
as for your dad being a mile away ive known situations where 1 house 2 chimneys - Chimney 1 has no reception at all - move the aerial to the other chimney on the other side of the house and it booms in
there are places in sheffield that receive waltham or belmont and neither were paticularly strong but no other transmitters so had to use one or other

You will be on Emley moor where your are - you could receive from Belmont but I doubt that an aerial rigger would pick Waltham
The signal Booms in where you are as you are high up and in line of site to Emley
Just Checked My tv and signal seems to be fine - Not got analyser on it though I live at Beighton - If I had a problem then yes transmitter would be down but its working fine

joe - I think what you will find is that the signal now is phenomenally strong where you are - can you actually see the top of the transmitter - if so your box is probably being swamped by too much signal
nip into ATV at hillsbourgh opposite back entrance to the barracks where morrisons is and get an attenuator - they do a various ones you probably find it will work once the signal is reduced
The aerial installer would have installed a wideband aerial - you obviously received analogue BBC 2 as you state you now miss it - the new BBC channels are where BBC2 analogue used to be !

if not they're about a fiver so you've not wasted much

Kev - its likely that your sky output is wiping the signal - what transmitter are you on?
alter the rf output of your sky box to another channel and retune the other tv's in the house to sky - you should find that the multiplex you wiped out now works!

Shaun make sure the feed from the sky dish isnt shorted
a single strand of outer braid touching the inner core will do this
unscrew the connector fold back the outer braid look real close as a single strand wrapped around the inner core is easy to miss
Keith
If not maybe there is another problem with the cable
from the dish to the receiver

there are usually a couple of scart sockets on the back of the dvd recorder - usually scart 1 sends a controll signal through to the tv to tell it to turn to it
if you have connected via scart 1 and it doesn't change the tv to av1 then check to see if scart control is an option in the menu and switch it on
after setting up hundreds of tv's and vcr/dvd systems over the years one thing ive found is each combination works slightly differently - annoyingly there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it and its a case of sitting there figuring out how the setup your working on works before instructing the customer on the use!

Kim - these tv's usually come with a scart adaptor to a small what looks like Headphone socket at the back of the set - unfortunately I have known customers throw these connectors out with the packaging - check the instruction manual - the bag of bits its in there might be one there (should be one supplied) with all the bits

Geoff G - have you checked the end of the cable for signs of water coming through the cable - common fault that affects reception
as for your neighbours having sky - this is a totally different transmission and reception so cant compare the 2
