you can buy scart switcher boxes fairly cheaply the sat box and the dvd player connect to the box which has a scart fly lead coming out of it in effect doubling or tripling the available scart sockets on the tv

never used this particular product but I would imagine it would do the job

tested signal off belmont today in 3 different locations in sheffield - first in the morning where I knew I could get a signal without going up a ladder - the signal off the ground was 49 db the signal on ch48 was 32db -- usually the BBC mux and the one that carries itv come in at a very similar level so looks like the signal has gone up by 17 db or there abouts - second test was in Beighton s20 where I was on a roof lining an aerial up on Emley Moor but before i did that i did a search for Belmont I was getting 40db at this location from ch 22 - the rest of belmont analogue and other muxes were not visible at all on my analyser I live in Beighton and cant say I have ever been able to receive ~Belmont in this location - 3rd location customer had an old group A aerial in a poor reception area - the fault was satellite related but I took the opportunity to measure the signal there the signal all be it after a mast head amp was 58 db the analogue signals were around 62 db no sign of anything above ch 32 so no sign of itv on ch 48 - customer claimed she has never been able to get digital through an aerial ---- EVER and knowing the area I know thats about right unless the aerial is A1 bang on alignment with ct100 cable and a decent high gain low noise mast head amp (and good will )

David - CH 45 isnt Emley Moor the BBC mux from Emley is on CH 52 -
THE channels for digital are 39 (HD) 40 43 46 39 50 52 - dont know the area but if your receiving digital BBC on CH 45 I assume its a local transmitter not Emley

Also I have no idea why the contrast and colour should be affected in any way - the new signal from Belmont in sheffield is amazingly strong and hopefully if Emley Moor goes up this amount then we can start offering the correct regional news in areas where we couldn't before switchover

ahhhh I understand why the colour and contrast were altered now

When you manually scan the tv you will need the aerial connected or the tv will do nothing - manually tuning a tv where there are several transmitter s being received by an aerial is a superb idea - as long as you know which transmitter the aerial is pointing at

Brian -- yeah i suppose I was being lazy when I said that I didn't know which transmitter BBC was on ch 45

NOTE TO SELF ----- MUST DO BETTER IN THE FUTURE

incidentally if the signal is this strong perhaps a new line of business needs to be investigated -- I hear house clearance earns good money -- Need a bigger van :-(

Most sets have the facility in menu to turn off automatic channel update - this may save your frustrations as to be honest I think you may have this problem for ever more as the tv when turned on will see belmont and go -- mmmm more channels are available lets tell david about it!

another option would be to use a group B channel pass filter which would only allow (depending on manufacturer of the filter) channels 39 to 53 to be passed through the aerial system

please note this was a random search on google - if the fringe site was better I would have used that
the fringe link is here though

THE channel band filters work really well - if the signal is quite strong perhaps placing an attenuator before the channel band filter will help as 45db signal strength at the set will work happily - like this morning Ive installed an aerial on Belmont in Sheffield the signal on the new ch 22 mux was 66db so would work with an 18 db attenuator leaving 48 db at the set

if you want to crack this once and for all and never have an issue use a channel filter like Taylor Bros make - this device will only let the signals through that are required these are £87.50 plus vat and really need someone who knows what they are doing installing one - but this is a task for after switchover when the analogue signals have gone -unless you want to buy 2 filters for the month or so we have left that would just be a waste of cash

Take a look

HI rachel - I take it you wanted the sky box out to cut the costs then realised that your aerial reception isnt as good or none exsisitant
the cables that come from the dish screw into the back of the sky box then a scart lead or hdmi cable need to be connected to the tv
you can use the sky box to receive free channels without paying skys monthly fees

You may have to buy a card from sky which costs £20 but if you have a card and have just cancelled your subscription your existing card should do

if this doesn't answer your question as what you asked was very vague repost with a more precise description of where you are experiencing the problems

What can I do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or &

Robert: possibly your box is over heating and the power supply needs cooling dont think its reception problems but certainly a hot sky box will play up

have a feel see if its getting really hot - is it in a cupboard with little ventilation ?

just as a test when this happens get a domestic desk type fan and blow cold air into it - i know this isnt a cure but it would indicate if heat was an issue
