If you zoom in on the map above so that it shows Naish Hill DAB transmitter, not far from the village of Sandy Lane, and then click on the "r" symbol it will show you the coverage map.
DAB is known to have various reception problems, including susceptibility to terrain and movement. A moving car does suffer from some reception problems of DAB. That's why our continental neighbours waited a while and now use DAB2 or DAB+, which suffers rather less from reception problems of the type you are experiencing.

It would be useful to know what the signal strengths are on the BBC channels giving problems. Can you check on you mother's TV what the channel frequencies are and give the strengths of those, not the signal quality though.
Check at the top of this page what the frequencies should be. If they are showing as different on the TV then you may need to do a manual tune on those that are incorrect.
Let us know what the results are please?

As jb38 suggests, 50% strength is not really enough for reliable reception on most TV sets. The ideal is more like 60-70% strength with a quality of at least 80% for best reception.
That suggests there may be an aerial problem at your mother's house. I agree with jb38 that checking by using another TV set (yours perhaps) might help identify whether there really is an aerial fault, but that does depend on the make and model of your own set.

It is unlikely that any commercial services local to Glasgow will appear on a transmitter serving Stirling, which is a bit too far outside such servie area. However, if you are thinking about the Scotish Television services based in Glasgow, then you will need to ask them directly, try enquiries@stv.tv.

As I understand Sky's packages, you would need to pay for a basic Sky package plus the Sports package. They do not, as far as I understand, offer just the Sports channels separately.

Satellite programmes are not delivered from ground-based transmitters such as Crystal Palace. All satellite services are delivered from orbiting satellites over 22,000 miles above the Equator, in the case of the Astra satellites used by both Sky and Freesat they are positioned roughly above East Africa. To receive the Freesat signals you use your carefully aimed dish and not the UHF aerial that you may have that is pointing towards Crystal Palace.

Well, it all depends on where you live and which transmitter you are using. To help determine the cause of your problem we need to know where you are, so please give a full post code (the first 'half' is not accurate enough!) of either your own location or that of a very nearby shop or post office.

If you give a full post code, you and I could look up where you live and hence suggest which transmitter might be worth trying. Mendip is a full service transmitter so tranmits most channels, but some commercial channels choose not to transmit from all the main transmitters and very, very few of the 'light' transmitters - it's a matter of cost/benefit for them.
Wiveliscombe is not a great place for signal reception but a lovely small town and well worth a visit IMHO.
As an aside, it is worth using the pages on this site for your current transmitter, this one is intended to coever issues with reception, etc from the Belmont transmitter in North Lincolnshire, between Louth and Lincoln. It is, therefore, not the ideal page to get information from for your area.

Check that your TV is tuned to the transmissions from Black Hill and not those from Roseneath, which could be received poorly vai the back of your aerial. It is best to check which channel numbers have been tuned in using the manual method, the User Manual for your TV should tell you how to do that.
