The TV Licence is for receiving any TV broadcasts available in the UK. Without a licence you are not allows to receive and view any live broadcasts, not mat whether they are from a terrestrial (Freeview) transmitter or from a satellite (FreeSat, Sky Eutelsat, Hotbird, etc.)
The licence grants permission to operate the equipment used for receiving and viewing such services 'live'. A license is not generally needed for delayed viewing.

BTW, the licence is NOT enforced by the BBC but by TV Licencing, a QUANGO that collects the money on behalf of Government and distributes it as per Government Policy.

You don't give a Post Code so we can't be sure of where in Calne you live. If we could, then we'd be able to determine whether it is worth trying to get signals from Mendip. I live in Bremhill, so know the area well and knowing which road you are on (and which part if it is a long one like London or Oxford Roads) would help us to help you.

You need to select to have an 8 day EPG instead of the default 14 day. That will normally bring back the EPG listings and allow recordings. See the responses above from Paula Boon and E Purcell.
The comment about "have been told that Bush has stopped transmitting" is meaningless as Bush is a manufacturing brand name and the company does not 'transmit' anything! The EPG is produced from programme data in the TV signal.

Your description strong suggests that the Echostar receiver has a fault in the tuner section. Only by trying it at a different location will prove that by eliminating all your current LNB and cabling, etc.
If an LNB fails, they normally fail completely and not just on one transponder and the fact that your Panasonic is receiving that transponder multiplex perfectly supports the idea that it is the Echostar as fault.
testing it elsewhere will show if it is truly at fault bay having the same problem with BBC HD signals..

Are you receiving your signals from Belmont or Waltham? Both transmitters are having engineering works carried out and that may affect reception.

Judging by your actual location (thanks to Dave Lindsay for pointing it out) you are in an area that is very poorly served by Mendip, due to the hill with Bowood, Derry Hill, etc) and the Calne transmitter aerials are directional so do not cover your area. That coverage is intended for parts of Oxford Road, New Road and the section of London Road that is blocked from Mendip by the hill with Derry Hill at the top. That mostly means parts of the town centre and heading east along the A4.
So your choice is limited and no aerial will be able to resolve the shielding effect of the geography, so I advise not spending money of changing aerials, etc.
As has been suggested, perhaps the only viable solution would be BT Infinity but as you've discovered it is substantially more expensive than ADSL broadband, and with the Calne exchange not too far away your ADSL speed should be fairly good.

Not knowing what equipment you have, I'd suggest looking for the tuning facility - but do not start any scanning. Just select a programme that is giving problems and check whether the signal strength is correct, you do *not* want 100% but it should be better than 50%. Also check the signal quality, that should ideally be 80% or better.
That there are works being conducted at Tacolneston can mean signal interruptions and/or periods of lower power working.

Yes, it does, but I stated that the location is poor for Mendip reception, which is what he was asking about earlier. A look on Google Street View indicates that every house with an external aerial is aimed at the Calne realy and I cannot see any on that street aimed at Mendip, which is as I expected because of the geography of the area.
The Calne 'relay' does not carry commercial services so does not provide the BT Sport signals that JamesD was seeking. So his only solutuions are to forego BT Sport or pay the higher price for BY Infinity (although an Openreach engineer has told me that BT Internet customers with an ADSL service of at least 5.6 Mbps can get BT Sport free. As James is less than 1 mile from the exchange he should have a pretty good ADSL speed.).

Change the Programme Guide settings to give an 8 day EPG instead of 14 day. Many have reported that this solves the problem.
