Ajay: I would give 38 a try, as a couple of test codes carried out in the reception predictor from the Ascot area indicates that this channel is not used by any transmitter receivable in the area, Crystal Palace indicated as the station covering the Ascot area.

You should though try checking if the interference vanishes by removing the normal aerials connection into the Sky box, or the I.O port modulator if your Sky+HD box is of the later variety, as if it doesn't, then either the interference is being picked in the cable connecting the Sky box to the 2nd TV, or the problem is possibly being caused by an iffy connection in one of the coax connectors.

MilesT: If you are referring to a Hitachi HDR162 or similar? first time installation does "not" delete previously made recordings, a message to this effect appearing on the screen as soon as you press F.T.I., the procedure deleting all settings other than those recorded.

By the way, expect the Hitachi to go through a repeated disk checking procedure for about a minute or so prior to reverting to the tuning menu.

jayne: That said suggests that your TV carried out an auto-scan as soon as you switched it on, the percentage figures referred to indicating the progress of the tuner carrying out a rescan, the fact of it reverting back to the beginning again meaning that the tuner hasn't stored any channels. Of course that is "if" nothing is being received?, if not check your aerial connections, if though they are, then the auto-scan was most likely for purpose of channel updating.

Further advice as / if required.

Syd: Did the procedures referred to include a "manufacturers reset"'?, also known as "default setting" - "first time installation" etc, as I carried out a manual scan on Mux33 and all 15 or so channels came up perfectly OK, albeit a bit on the intermittent side as Stamford (@ 53miles from Belmont) is not really covered by this station.

maria ryan: Dishes can "only" be used by either Sky or Freesat boxes. If you reside in a bad reception area or alternatively one covered only by a Freeview "light" station, i.e: no commercial channels other than ITV, Channel 4/5 etc, then purchasing a Freesat box (around just under 50) would be to your advantage, it providing a full range of channels.

That said is on the assumption that the cable / connection point from the dish is still intact.

John Whittaker: Although the model number of your TV is undeniably of considerable assistance, but problems of the nature described, are in most cases resolved by returning the TV to its shipping condition rather than just retuning it.

The usual procedure on Panasonic's being. Press: Menu - Set up - Shipping condition seen in the extension of the set up menu list, or alternatively (dependant on model) in the menu displayed on pressing "Set up".

If though, neither of the two apply, then as said by MikeP, a model number is indeed essential.

Alan Betteney: I feel that my statement of "moved" has possibly misled you, for which I apologise for not making it clearer, as I was really referring to the multiplex transmitter that the programme was previously broadcast on (COM6) having changed to COM4 /Mux C43, and not the programme guide number (EPG) that the programme is viewed on.

John Whittaker: If the problem was not resolved after having carried out the "return to shipping condition" procedure, then it could possibly be caused by water having entered the "F" connector screwed into the LNB, as your Freesat tuner sends control signals (voltage and tone) to the LNB for both polarity and band switching purposes, water contamination inside the connector shorting out these control signals.

In order to get an idea of whether this is likely to apply or not, can you receive the following programme guide listing numbers.

BBC1HD (108) - BBC3 HD (106) - BBC4 HD (107) - Ch4 HD (126), two of these channels being on different transponders and one on a different polarity.

John Whittaker : In addition to that said. Re test channels listed in my previous posting, please ignore and replace with the undermentioned, as these will test out the V and H polarity switching of the LNB on both high and low bands.

BBC2 HD - BBC news HD (200) - Pick TV (144) - QVC (800)

John Whittaker: Sorry for the slight delay in replying. However, these results indicate that you are only receiving channels in what's known as the low band, the fact of the two that are received being on different polarities, at least proving that the LNB's 13/18 volts polarity switching command from your TV is OK. On the other hand though, no high band channels being received can be caused by the 22Khz band switching tone having been shorted out by water having entered the LNB's "F" connector.

As a matter of interest, what strength and quality indications do you get on the channels that are received?, quality having to be either 100% or as near as possible to it irrespective of strength, as anything lower, such as caused by the dish being slightly out of alignment, could have an adverse effect on the data stored by the Freesat default transponder on 11.428Ghz H / 27500 (the heart of the system), this possibly being the reason for the limited number of channels received, including none of operating in the high band.

By the way, do you still have the manual for the TV? the only reason for enquiring being that instructions could be given with reference to particular page numbers.
