JAMES: The other ranges that would appear a safe bet are from Ch32 - Ch37, I only mention this as "some" boxes RF modulators give a slightly higher output in lower ranges and likewise a less grainy image, and so if Ch63 upwards has a tendency to be grainy try the lower range.

And by the way just to confirm Ch42 and Ch46 are both used by Sutton Coldfield, albeit I mistakenly thought you had mentioned Ch42 due to my laptop battery having failed and "thought" that I had remembered the number.

But as I mentioned in a much earlier reply, if the sound is distorted when viewing Sky via the RF output from the Sky box and it still does it when you take the normal aerial out of the Sky box, then it suggests that the actual TV is defective, and although its not entirely impossible for a fault like that to originate within the Sky boxes modulator, in the somewhat lengthy period of time I have been involved with devices such as that I have never experienced this sort of problem.

Of course the positive way of proving if it is the TV or not is to borrow another set, even if just analogue, and try a test using that once the sound becomes distorted on the LG.

sheila macey: With any question involving a reception issue its essential for a location to be given, and with this being in the form of a post code or at least one from nearby, as this will then enable the signal levels predicted for your area to be assessed.

Also, on the basis of what you have said it would be of assistance to know the model of Panasonic TV in question.

Reeshar: Although you have carried out a reset on the TV that only resets the visual side of the TV to the "out of the box" condition and not anything concerned with the tuners memory, the very area that what you want cleared.

If you haven't already carried out this procedure then remove the aerial and carry out an auto-tune without it connected as that "might" blank out anything stored, to check whether it has or not once the blank scan has completed press the guide button to make sure the EPG list is not indicated.

Follow this action by carrying out another auto-tune after having reconnected the aerial, and after completion of the auto-tune trying out some SDN channels again.

If this still doesn't cure your problem then you will have reset the TV via the service menu, this info supplied dependant on the results of the test.

By the way to my knowledge there isn't any firmware updates in the pipeline for your model nor is the problem you are having mentioned in the service notes.

Nick g: Its quite impossible to offer any advice when your location isn't known, as the reception predictor used for reference purposes cannot be accessed without a post code being entered, or at least one from nearby such as a shop / pub etc.

Speaking in general terms, HD being problematic when SD appears to be OK can in many cases be caused by an excessively high level of signal being received and which will always affect HD reception before SD, but this cannot be verified one way or the other without a location being provided.

My only reason for saying this is, that "if" the 100% that you mention is referring to strength then an overloading problem could well be applying.

jean stevenson: You cannot record anything on a Sky+ box box unless the programme originates from its own "internal" tuners, this qualification also applying to Freesat and Freeview PVR's (recorders) and with this being the reason why none of these devices have input sockets.

The other point about Sky+ boxes being that you cant even record anything from Sky unless a subscription is in force, as only then will Sky allow access to the recording side of the box as they retain permanent control over this.

The box though can still be used like a normal Sky box and receive all "free to view" channels.

Tracy Gill: I was reading the somewhat lengthy saga concerning your reception problems including "some" of the replies as they likewise can be time consuming to wade through, however what I wondered about was if at any time you had checked with anyone close by to find out if they experience similar reception problems to yourself?

The reason I ask, is because on a Google earth check I see that most aerials seem to be perched on top of high mounting poles, and with the property next to the mini roundabout sign having an aerial that's quite inappropriate for the situation that its in whereby its facing into trees, "inappropriate" by the fact of it being a high gain and likewise sharper pick up device whereas aerials of a much lower gain and likewise having a broader pick up pattern are usually far more effective in these type of situations, and with them not necessary being mounted high up unless by doing so clears the top of the trees, as if it doesn't then the aerial is effectively facing into a higher density parts of the tree vegetation.

Have you at any time purely for test purposes tried a set top aerial to verify or not if anything could be received at lower levels, although the impediment (as I see it) with trying this sort of thing in your type of situation is that the signal would be travelling through the gable end of the property, and so its not exactly a fair test.

Susan Mulvenna: As the Divis transmitter is indicated as being located at just over 1 mile away then the signal level you are receiving from it could be that strong that its partially blocking your tuner, and something which can result in low signal strength readings being seen due to instability in the tuner corrupting data, and so if you have a set top aerial around plug that in and try another rescan, if though you don't have access to a set top aerial then even a short piece of wire (about 18" min) plugged into the inner part of the aerial socket will suffice for a test.

Should this action result in more channels being received then you will require to fit an attenuator in line with your TV or boxes aerial socket.

The only problem that you might have is that you are predicted as also being able to receive signals from both the Black Mountain relay transmitters as well as Divis, and depending on your box it might pick up one of these two relays rather than Divis, anyway try whats been suggested and give an update on results.

Mark: The information you have been given is quite correct as its a well known about issue concerning these Goodman's boxes, and any owners of this model of box who do not find it necessary to complain is simply because that they reside in an area where the Freeview transmitters they are receiving their signals from do not have any negative offsets on their operating frequencies. Alan Jordan: If anyone cancels their contract past the 12 months minimum period then all Sky will do is to simply cancel the access code on your card (this done over air) that enables you to view their Sky dedicated channels and nothing else, and so you will still be able to view all "free to view" channels.

You can test what you will be able to view by simply removing your card and going through the channels, pressing back up should any message appear on the screen.

By the way you retain the card plus the equipment unless you have signed anything to the contrary, but Sky is not really interested in recovering older boxes of the standard type.

James Osbourn: Checked a few minutes ago and all channels from Sandy are perfectly OK in the Peterborough area.
