Below are all of jb38's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.matt hope: Thats is inclined to suggest the possibility that a strong Freeview signal is close (or on) the RF channel used by the Sky box, you should have a check to ensure that Sky's RF output channel used above 64 (pref 68/69) and if you have to change it then remember to retune the TV again (on analogue) to pick up the new channel.

Brian Fowler: Its Freeview that Geoff is having problems with and not Freesat, regarding the HD transponder frequency it uses 10.847 GHz. (you accidentally reversed 8 & 4)

marie: Yu should first of all try disconnecting the box from the mains supply (remove rear connector) and after allowing it to sit for about 30 secs or so reconnect it again, then once it starts to respond to the remote control allow it to go through the usual process of searching for listings etc.
If the problem is still there then press "services" and you will then see the main menu with "options" being highlighted, highlight the "settings" menu using the right arrow button and press select, then using the left / right arrow buttons scroll to "signal" and press select, this will then display the signal level indicator bars and where both strength / quality should be at about 55%+ to resolve a picture, if not the dish is slightly out of alignment but far enough not to resolve a picture, however should nothing at all be seen on the indicators then either the dish is well out of alignment or the box has developed a problem, the internal power supply of same being the usual cause of this problem.
Further info dependant on results of test plus the brand model of the box in question.

matt hope: Of course there is an easy way to verify whether or not the Freeview signal is responsible for the problem, and simply done by temporarily removing the normal aerials connection into the Sky box and checking the result of this action on the upstairs TV.

Sal: No! as you are only using the external connection sockets (scart or HDMi) which does not interfere in any way with the tuning menu.
The only thing you "might" require to do is to reselect DVB on the TV's remote control after having used the external connections, that is if Freeview doesn't appear after switching on.

Stephen Rodway: The Sky box automatically reverts to that mode and so you do not require to do anything.
Remember though, that should you be using a Sky+ box then the recording side of the box will be disabled by Sky at the same time as your access to Sky's dedicated package channels.

Rose o connell: If you are experiencing reception difficulties on Sky then its not being caused by the rust but more likely a dish alignment problem.
If you are referring to a standard Sky box press: Services - 4 - 6 and see what levels are being indicated as both signal and quality should be around 60%+, if the indications are under these levels then the dish is slightly out of alignment, or if the signal / quality is fluctuating then this can either be caused by corrosion on the "F" connectors threads or even water having entered the plug, especially if the self amalgamating tape that's usually wrapped around the connector has come off.

Mike: What method is used to feed the signal into the various bedrooms? because if its a powered splitter then for a test take its main aerial input lead out and connect it directly into one of the room feeds and then check if the signal has returned, that is provided you try the test in the correct room!
It would also have been of assistance to know your location (post code or one from nearby, eg: a shop) as this would have enabled the signal levels expected at your location to be assessed.

Mike Held: This might seem rather elementry, but I assume that your box does not have a manual tuning facility? as if it does then either reset the box or carry out a retune with the aerial disconnected as that will blank the memory out, then manually tune in Sandy's muxes one at a time, these being:
27 - 24 - 21(HD) - 51 - 52 - 48.

ANN NEWSTEAD: On checking back I cant actually see anyone having asked you for further info! however have you tried completely resetting the box? or alternatively removing the aerial and then carrying out a retune as this will blank the memory out, then when completed reconnect the aerial and carry out a second retune and try out the recorder.
I have to say though that your problem could be caused by a software issue and which is not easily curable, as these boxes have a reputation for being troublesome, but try the procedure mentioned and giving an update on results.
