CONRAD: Thanks for the update, and I would be interested to hear the results of the tests at your parents house, although they "might" initially appear to be slightly better as the box will be stone cold when you try it, albeit that very likely wont last long once it heats up.
Regarding the pairing of your card to your new box, purely out of interest did you find that you couldn't access the recorder? even to only play back something previously recorded?

Mike: Thanks for the clarification, although whilst you were up there did you not manage to check where the coax joins into the aerial?
Of course your HP15 location is surrounded by a series of low powered relay stations suggesting that reception problems exist in your area albeit the high powered Crystal Palace transmitter is located at 32 miles on a bearing of 119 degrees, but though its possible that you actually do require a booster to keep your signal above the reception threshold or nothing will be seen, and so if you have left the main aerial coupled into one of the room feeds, on the TV in the room that the feed is linked in to you should go into the TV's tuning menu / manual tune and enter Ch23 (BBC from Crystal Palace) then even without scanning on most equipment (not all though) as soon as the channel number is entered the strength of the signal received will be indicated.
Maybe, if not too inconvenient, you could try this and give an update, because if a signal is seen indicated then a new booster could solve your problem, advice given on this dependant on results.

Michael Frost: The answer is basically no, "but" I am aware who this is (a work colleague) and will ask the person concerned to check either the site or possibly the message board for your request, of course that is if they still give advice on that site as I am not sure whether they do or not.
Don't expect results before the weekend though as I wont see the person concerned before Saturday afternoon at the earliest.

Anna: You are predicted to have good reception but only from Winterhill, the problem being that if you carry out an auto-tune your TV or box is liable to pick up and store weaker signals from either of these other two stations as these all use lower channel numbers.
The best policy is to scrub what you have already stored by either carrying out a factory reset (also called "default setting") on your TV / box or by carrying out another auto tune with the aerial removed, once completed reconnect the aerial and go in to the tuning menu / manual tune (if set allows) and enter the following channels one at a time scanning each and storing the results before entering the next channel on the list.
Winter Hill: 62(BBC) - 59(ITV) - 54(HD if used) - 58(ITV3 etc) - 61(ArqA) - 55(ArqB)
If by any chance your TV/box does not allow manual tuning then during an auto-tune can you observe the channel numbers rising in the progress bar whilst scanning is taking place?

dean: What you report suggests an actual fault condition within the set, and which could possibly be caused by a signal compatibility issue in relation to the new transmission modes being used on stations that's recently switched over to high powered operation.
The other possibility is that the signal levels being received are a little on the high side for the tuner, but a proper assessment cannot be made without knowledge of your location, this being in the form of a post code or one from nearby such as a shop.

Eileen: The common reason for what you have observed is usually because the signal being received is passing over areas where dense vegetation exists in the form of trees, something which I notice seems to be in an abundance in your area and with the first cluster of them not being that terribly far away, the worst type of situation.
I fully realise you have said that the other channels are OK but signals from the mast as well as being at different heights very seldom ever reach a non line-of-sight aerials in an equal fashion, so what you find is not that unusual.
Changing your aerial would not help this type of situation either as these swings are too great, although sometimes moving the position of an aerial a few feet sideways can help the problem, but this is more in the domain of an enthusiast as its not practicable in the commercial sense for someone being paid to carry this out as its a time consuming exercise.
I dont really feel that you have any option but wait and hope that the situation improves, and which it might do with the season changing and the effects that has on vegetation. The other thing I had meant to say was that if any neighbour might say that their HD is OK then that's simply because they are at a slightly different angle to you are, and what I was meaning about aerial positions.

Donna: When you say the second one is going to the HD box then where on the HD box is it going? is it into one of the LNB inputs or is it into the boxes normal aerial socket?
Also, when you refer to "F" connector attachments did you fit them or were they already there? and if so is anything printed on them? and if so what.
My reason for asking is that there are various configurations used on these wall plates and there are quite a few around that only provides a single satellite output and not two as required by Sky+.
Also as far as the multiroom distribution amplifier in the loft is concerned this is more likely for Freeview distribution and not satellite, as a single satellite feed cannot be split and shared between rooms.
Maybe you could update on the various queries referring to attachments etc.

Wendy Leak: That model in common with most other Humax boxes does not carry out auto searches for anything other than software (operating system) updates at 04.00am every morning, that is provided that the box has been left on standby, and so this message you are getting has to be from the TV.
The next time you see this message cancel it off, but just as a test (on Humax) you should press: Menu / settings / installation / software update and change the options to "manual update", and see how that works out.

jj: There is nothing to stop you doing what you suggest as the box will receive signals exactly as when located in your bedroom.
Also as the multiroom box is not connected to a phone line then that's a plus point, although even if it was its quite permissible for a box to be unpowered for a week or so if a person is on holiday etc, as people generally turn off power to everything except their freezer.
By the way Sky would not know where any box is being used if its not connected to a phone line, as the phone line is the only form of communication between the box and Sky.
All that said on the assumption that you have a suitable dish installed at the caravan.
