steveh: Unfortunately that model of box will not work on the new 8K transmission mode that came into operation at switchover, this being why you are finding problems trying to tune it.

Andrew: Try manually tuning in Mux Ch46, that being the ITV multiplex for Sutton Coldfield.

You might be best though to first of all blank out anything stored using the aerial out procedure, then after carrying out the manual tune on Ch46, storing as required, then just use the "add (or find) channels" to load the remainder back in.

Smokes: Its possible to get your type of problem if the signal is too strong as well as being too weak, as an over powerful signal will overload the tuners input.

You haven't mentioned what type of aerial you are using, but if you have any form of amplification on it you must remove it.

If though you don't have a booster fitted, then you will likely require to use an attenuator in line with your TV / boxes aerial socket.

For a test, if you have any type of set top aerial around try that!

nam: Reception in Worcester can be very variable, with significant changes in what's possible changing over relatively short distances, however The Wrekin is indicated as about the best for WR4 area's (Shire business Park used for a test) with Larke Stoke and Ridge Hill coming about even seconds, these latter two offering consistently good (in theory) reception over the PSB multiplexes, the remaining three Muxes not!!

Ridge Hill though is the only station presently offering reception over four multiplexes, although this tapers off in March 2012 when once again only three are indicated as good, the remainder variable until later on in 2012 when all six are shown as possible.

In other words, I would say that nothing could really be guaranteed in the Worcester area, as in my opinion its an area where aerials really do have to be positioned on a building for best reception, as rule books don't really apply in these type of circumstances, experimentation being the order of the day!

Terry: Oxford when viewed on the trade predictor does have the edge on Mendip, albeit this only as far as the PSB muxes are concerned, ArqA / ArqB being variable right until April 2012, with SDN joining them
in November, although come April 2012 all six muxes are receivable.

Mendip only shows reception on its PSB muxes as being possible until 28th of March 2012, as then reception is indicated as possible on all six muxes.

As previously said, Oxford does show as being marginally better, and so if it wasn't a terrible task I would be inclined to give it a try after the 28th, but nothing is really guaranteed in your type of area as local conditions obviously play a big part in what's actually achievable.

kenneth wilson: You are only five miles away from Sutton Coldfield as as such very likely to be suffering from signal overloading problems, as this will intermittently block your tuners ability to operate correctly.

If you use any form of booster it must be removed, if you dont have any then you will require to purchase a simple attenuator to place in line with your TV/ boxes aerial input socket, as that should cure your problem.

If you have any type of set top aerial around, carry out a test trying that.

Carney: Well, although the procedure mentioned can in some occasions help alleviate the problem, I have to say that I did had my doubts as to whether it would or not in your case as it is related to a software issue connected with the transmission modes being used, I don't know if your TV has its software auto-update turned off or on (should be on!) but due to the age of that set and the fact that its discontinued I doubt if Philips are making any further "over air" downloads now.

I would think its best policy to contact Philips customer service on this to see what they come up with, although I would not really expect very much except stock answers, because as was previously mentioned is not exactly an unknown problem with that model and is something that is really out with your control as far as being able to rectify the situation is concerned, the problem first starting to rear its head a few years ago.

PS: There is a little test I would have liked you to have tried though, this entirely dependant on where you receive your signal from and whether or not its fully switched over, preferably not as far as the test is concerned.

Carney: Please ignore the latter comment regarding a test, as I see you did indicate a location on your latest posting whereby you do reside in a fully switched area.

Brendan: It should be appreciated that the transmitter in question is only a Freeview PSB (Public services broadcast) station operating with three multiplexes, and as such you will only receive BBC1 / ITV1(Ch4/Ch5 etc) as well as the HD services.

This situation will not change.

Liz Falconer: Your best policy by far is to try and make local enquires with anyone else in your area who can view HD transmissions to find out if they have noticed any problem with STV HD, if not then its likely to point to a fault with your box, as you have effectively tried all the procedures thats possible for a user to try.

I havent as yet found anyone else making a similar complaint to yourself regarding the Rumster Forrest transmitter, either on this site or another that I use, although with your area being quite small its not necessarily the case that complaints would be made via the web but possibly more to a local TV shop etc.
