Ian Grice: Purely on the Sky RF output issue, it wont really matter if all the frequencies are going to be used, because in reality anyone that uses a Sky boxes RF modulator will still only have the multiplexes associated with the station they receive their Freeview from to contend with.

Should though anyone be in an area where more than one station can be picked up, then the actual signal strength received from the second station is not likely to be of a magnitude to cause a problem, although if it did, then at the very most it would only be from another six multiplexes.

I cant really see this particular issue as being a potential problem.

Peter johnson: No! as cables aren't really bothered what type of signals are passing through them so long as they are designed to cope with RF signals associated with the UHF frequencies used by Freeview.

SB: If you are anywhere near the ST13 7.. area, then Winter Hill presently indicates as being a possibility, Sutton Coldfield in November, although Winter Hill is the best of the two.

But of course this is entirely dependant on local conditions applying, as predictors cannot really cater properly for this sort of thing.

Pat G: Well, without having any devices to use for a test then there isnt any way to check other than physically, which you have already done as far as the co-ax with no plug on it is concerned.

I will say that although switchover isnt until November 23rd the predictions are that reception should presently be possible from Tacolneston,(@ 9 miles away) so if you are also in the area and have a small Freeview TV it would be advantageous to try it out at your daughters house, preferably if pre-tuned to Tacolneston as it would save going through the scanning procedure.

I only mention Freeview as its less of a hassle to test this over a Satellite set up using a TV and separate box.

tracyt: If you are using Midhurst for reception, then MuxC/ ArqA (Ch64) which Challenge uses is forecast as being poor until March 2012.

I am not quite clear though about you stating programmes will return at 6am, as you have to be picking the channel up to see that in the first place, so are you meaning that although you have seen that on the screen it doesnt come on during daytime?

You could maybe also carry out a signal strength / quality check on Mux Ch64, this done via the tuning menu, giving an update on what you find considering the predictors negative forecast on your reception of it.

Tony: Yesterday (EPG12) is on ArqB/Com6 Mux Ch57 from Waltham, this the same Mux as ITV4 / Ideal World etc, etc are on.

Mrs T: For accuracy a full post code is really necessary, but a test code suggests that you are not very far away from Brierley Hill and should receive the programmes referred to on ArqB Mux Ch55.

You should also be able to receive it from Sutton Coldfield (@ 15miles) the most powerful of all stations, with ArqB being on Mux Ch39 from there.

You should try a manual scan on either of these channels.

Liz Falconer: As regards to lots of extra channels in the 800 ranges, you shouldn't really have had that result if you blanked out the channels already stored, as the only other station that its possible for you to receive on a much less reliable basis is Keelylang Hill @ 35 miles away, although I would discount that as a possibility even although its indicated as such on the trade predictor. There shouldn't really be any problems with receiving Mux Ch24 either, as STV North / Ch4 / Ch5 etc are all on that multiplex.

I suggest you try carrying out a scan "without" the aerial connected, as this "will" blank the channels stored out, then re-connect the aerial and make another auto-tune scan and see what comes up.

The reason I asked you to try a factory re-set was in case anything had been corrupted whilst you were carrying out the original tuning, as I noticed that you have had some seriously bad reception problems in the past, and tuning whilst reception is erratic can cause various difficulties to spring up at a later point in time.

Another thing that concerns me is you saying that its only STV HD that's affected, so does that mean other HD channels are OK? as if they are then it could indicate either a box fault or alternatively one at the transmitter, albeit I haven't seen any complaints as yet, but will certainly make further checks elsewhere.

Matthew: The post code given indicates Rouncefall (@ 23mls) as being by far the best station for reception, Bluebell Hill (@ 22mls) most definitely not! That said though, predictors cannot fully cater for local circumstances that could cause problems with reception, so that might be a factor with your aerial being pointed at Bluebell Hill.

Although Bluebell Hill is at 262 degrees from you whereas Rouncefall is at 316, purely for a test I would scrub what's stored in the memory by carrying out a re-scan without the aerial being connected, then after reconnecting try manually tuning Rouncefall on Mux Ch44(BBC1) - Mux Ch41(ITV1) - Mux Ch47 (HD service) storing anything received after each scan.

The only downside of Rouncefall being that its a Freeview "Light" station, meaning only public services are broadcast.

Liz Falconer: Thanks for the update, and pleased to hear everything is OK now, although I have to surmise that STV HD must be your main viewing channel and that is why it was noticed there, as if whats been done has rectified the problem then all HD channels must have been affected as they are all from the same transmitter.
