MRB: A clarification point, when I mentioned "see if it still does it" I am of course referring to the buzzing noise heard whilst tuning, as after you have done that check you will obviously require to carry out another scan once the aerial is re connected, as your test will have blanked the memory.

Mike: Its quite impossible for anyone to offer assistance with any question involving reception when a persons location is unknown, this preferably supplied in the form of a post code for maximum accuracy, or at least as accurate as a reception predictor ever can be!

Elliot (hockley): Well with regards to what you suggest, I really do think that before altering anything you should try and investigate exactly what your neighbours are receiving channel wise, and at what level of reliability, as just because they pointing at Crystal Palace it doesn't by any means mean that they are having good reception, as reception from Crystal Palace on DUK's trade predictor shows a mixture of variable and poor right into 2013. Bluebell Hill by the way showing far worse, with more "poor" reception, or none at all, being indicated right into 2013.
That said though, in situations such as yours even moving a few yards or so to the left or right can make big differences in reception, this likewise applying to aerial heights, as in many circumstances an aerial at gutter level can sometimes out perform an aerial perched on top of a pole mounted on a chimney, and so it shouldn't always be assumed that highest is best, a mistake made by many! but it does require time consuming experimentation to find the best spot.
Another point is, that even although you are about 30 miles or so from Sudbury I feel your reception problems might be caused more by signal obstructions rather than sheer distance, and large multi-element aerials with their "sharp pick up pattern" does not help in this type of situation, and indeed can actually make the situation worse in certain respects, so if its easy to arrange you "might" benefit slightly by using your newer aerial for Sudbury.
It could well be that where you are located pockets of good reception exist for "some" Mux's, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of your neighbours can receive what you cannot, but that's just the nature of RF signals insomuch that nothing can really be guaranteed in these type of areas.
Anyway, I would be interested in knowing the outcome of any investigations carried out on what exactly your neighbours are receiving, especially on the channels you have problems with.

Ali: It depends on what station you are receiving from, as Rowridge presently indicates good reception across the board except on Mux B(Ch28) which indicates variable until the 7th of next March.
On the other hand if using Mendip, it likewise shows good reception except for Mux A/SDN (Ch62) this showing as poor, with Mux's C/D joining it on 28th September, and all three showing poor reception until March 28th 2012.

Kevinio: Basically yes! as a dish set up to receive 28.2 degrees UK channels will work with any Sky box, as the box doesnt discriminate against any dish being used with it.

wen: Unfortunately its quite impossible to advise on a reception problem without being able to check on the reception possibilities applicable to the area of the person making the enquiry, you not having mentioned your location.
If you supply this, preferably in the form of a post code for more accuracy, then further assistance can be given.

Adrian Tobin: Well the obvious question would be if its only doing this on Ch4 HD? and is the sound OK on the other BBC / ITV HD channels? as if it is its inclined to indicate that the problem might be outwith your control by being a transmission fault.
If by any chance it is occurring on the other channels mentioned, or even just continuing on Ch4 HD beyond the programme that you are presently viewing, then try switching the set completely off at the mains for about 15 seconds or so before powering it back up again.

KMJ,Derby: Yes, quite correct KMJ, although in the practical sense the relatively close Rouncefall transmitter being on the same frequency as Sudbury would most probably upset any accuracy involving the exact direction angle for Sudbury anyway.
Elliot (hockley): Based on KMJ jogging my mind on the Hockley location, I carried out a new assessment of reception using a SS5 post code (Hockley Post office, Spa Road) and although it lifts Sudbury's MuxC/ArqA out of its variable classification on June 12th next year, unfortunately on the downside Bluebell Hill to all intents and purposes is virtually wiped out as a possible for reception, indications being far worse than at present.

MRB: Reception indications for your location indicate that of being variable on three of the Mux channels but with the other three being reasonably OK, albeit Mux Ch63 (BBC1 etc) being by far the best.
The problem you are experiencing with your new TV could simply possibly be caused by the normal variations in sensitivity between different brands of equipment, however the buzzing noise that has developed during tuning is a bit suspicious of there being a problem within the set itself, especially when looked at along with the other audio peculiarity you mentioned, you should try another tune whilst the aerial is removed to see if it still does it.
Your reception by the way, doesn't really show any signs of improvement until November 23rd, as then good reception of all six Mux transmitters are shown as possible, although Mux1 (BBC1) changes to 8k operation prior to this date on the 9th November at the same time as it moves to Mux Ch55.
